After three years with my first ever Honda, a C90 Economy, I bought my second Honda a couple of days ago. I am now the proud owner of a yellow 5th Generation VFR800FI registered in 1999.

It has 105K miles on the odometer but looks in great condition for it's age so I took a risk. It was also cheap!

I have had couple of short rides and love the engine although the whistling from the cam gears is pretty loud at lower speeds.

I hope to commute on this bike and needed something that can do 80 miles each way once a week without needing a refill at the other end. Finger's crossed it will be reliable enough for this.

I was considering A Ducati ST, a Triumph ST and the VFR 5th generation and up. When taking my Cub for it's annual MOT I saw this bike at the garage and fell in love. The fact I could afford it was good too!

Since deciding to buy it just a few days ago I have read many of the threads on this site and I have checked my regulator/rectifier to find it has been replaced with one from a CBR929/Blackbird (?) part number SH678C-13. Hopefully this is a reliable replacement.

The bike came with no paperwork after being in storage for nearly a decade but some helpful person wrote the mileage the air filter and plugs were last replaced on the air box (94K miles). The garage say they replaced the fuel pump and the oil and filter and also fitted a new battery.

Recommendations for checks I should perform next would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the world mate!!

Ooooh, the whine of those gear driven cams is like porn to me.

Btw, I sold my 5th gen this year and it had over 132,000 miles (212,000 kilometers) and still ran like a scalded dog!

Make yourself and your banana at home!

Welcome! It looks, from your photo, as if it came off the showroom floor!

Nice job on your first post by the way.

Thanks both for the welcome! I can see the sound of those gears becoming addictive. Read another thread on here about a bike with 260K kms on it so I easily have at least another 100K before any trouble, right? I am off to read the accessories threads and pick a nice sounding exhaust.

WOW...beautiful! Congrats on your find and welcome!
I sure miss the sound of a 5th gen. If I were to get another VFR, it'd be one. Enjoy!
