Has anyone here had wrist surgery, and will comment on the outcome? I'm undergoing surgery in Nov. I have 2 options, and am trying to decide which to go with. Option 1, proximal row carpectomy, where they remove the scaphoid, lunate, and triquetral bones. Option 2, a 3-corner fusion, a modification of the better known 4-corner fusion technique, where I believe only the scaphoid bone is removed.

Anyway, I'm curious about effect on use of controls. I'm right-handed, and it's my RH being operated on.

    TIA,

Actually Randy, I can. And I've been practicing all sorts of things with my left hand ......

My surgeon/I will make the final decision on the day of the surgery, we've discussed the options already. What I was thinking is that maybe within this vast riding community, someone has already gone thru this, or similar, and has direct experience to share. Maybe not ...

Hey, hey, hey ... I am as unique as everyone else I'll have you know :p ...

Did some more research, a PRC is what Nicky Hayden (RIP) had done and appeared to be happy with. John Hopkins also. If it's good enough for world class road racers, I think I can go with it ...

    Surgery update, FWIW ...

In Nov I had the surgery and the doc elected to go with a 4 corner fusion. I left it up to him to make the best choice once he opened the wrist up. Tomorrow I go see him for a 2nd follow up and hopefully the bones have knitted well enough for me to start rehabbing the wrist. I've had to be careful with limited movement for 6 weeks. I have a little hubcap in there with 8 screws, amazing what you can fit inside the wrist.

On new years eve, I had a little slip-up. I stepped thru my attic ceiling and caught myself with my good hand, but weaker arm. The result was a loud pop, and now my bicep has retracted away from the elbow ... fuck. I see another doc on Wed to see if this can be fixed, and if surgery is necessary. If so, more immobilizing, more rehab. Oh well, I'm still better off than many and I'm grateful for that. :)
