Anybody know if there is a way to adjust the freeplay on the throttle cable of an 03 vfr. I've got about 1/4 " roll in the grip before the throttle starts to engage, it's smooth so I don't think it's the cable,. Is this normal? It's kind of a pain in the butt on low speed corners, makes the throttle "choppy".

Follow the throttle cables. There are adjustment nuts somewhere along the line, close to the throttle housing if I remember correctly.

There should be an adjuster immediately following the curved section coming out from under the handgrip, on one of the throttle cables. It's a thin hex-nut (locknut) butted up against a very long one (about 2" long). You need 2 wrenches, one for each nut.

Put the wrenches on and back the locknut off (CCW) while holding the long barrel nut still with the other wrench. You can now spin the barrel nut CW to take some of the slack out of the throttle.

Do this while the bike is running so you know if you're raising the idle any.

When you get it where you like it, spin the locknut CW so it snugs against the barrel nut, then hold the barrel nut with 1 wrench while you tighten the locknut.

I just did this the other day and it made a world of difference when trying to hold a steady slight throttle (no dead zone).

Factory specs for all bikes dictate more freeplay than I like. I prefer to have almost none. After you're done adjusting, turn the handlbars side to side and watch the tach/listen to the engine. If revs go up at all with the bars turned, you'll have to loosen the cable a bit.

I go for the tightest I can get it without raising the idle or causing it to rev when turned the bars side to side (was a problem on my old bike, but not the VFR).
