Shock

After hunting down a shock (that I have not yet figured out what it came off)that was the right length ,spring tension and had the correct end on it I sat down to figure out ride height and linkage. The ride height is a given point so I just mocked it up to see what I had and there were some issues with the dog bone and the bottom of the shock coming in contact at full extension. I had to make a new set of links so I measured the rate of shock stroke through its range and used cardboard to pattern several different patterns and took the difference between them and took a pot shot at it. This is the part of the project I admit may require a bit of time and more than one attempt to get it where I am happy but I will need to ride it to know. The new links are steel and the first picture is of the rough cut. Second is finished product and original.Third is left side installed . Fourth is the finished assembly.Fifth is where I took a flapper wheel to bottom edge of swing arm to make a little room for spring to clear, it is all a very tight. Next the shock installed with a shot of the clearance.UPDATE;shock was off a Yamaha V Star 650.

The seat of the pants feel of the suspension is quite good. It may be a touch stiffer than before but it was pretty weak before in stock trim. I ordered a sprocket yesterday(wish I had done it three weeks ago) and it will take three weeks to get to me.The sprocket (front) needed to have a 5/8 off set ,so after a call to Sprocket Specialist ,who I have gone through for things like this in the past, they told me they only do stock parts now but gave me a number for someone that would make what I needed.Randy at Superior Sprockets was very busy but dropped what he was doing to review what I needed and said he would have to me in a few weeks. So far the easiest part of this.

Installed the brake. Capped off one line with a spacer off an SXR head spacer and used on of the 01 brake line that turned out to be almost perfect in length. At this point I put the bike back together to get an idea of what to do with the routing of said line. Thats where I am at. I have a clearance issue with the left exhaust but the foot peg cleared , just. The wheel is off to the right 1.5-2.0 mm so the wheel will have to be milled to correct. I have a spare wheel and it will have to be a dedicated wheel for this bike..Will post when I get further.Glad to have it back together.

Toe Cutter,

What bike jack is that you're using?
Do you like it?
Where did you get it?
Expensive?

Sprocket

Got the sprocket on and installed the chain. Had to put a non o'ring chain on as the back side of the sprocket was so close to the teeth in the back due 5/8" off set. It was very close to the clutch slave cylinder so I had to shave a little off to provide clearance. Took it for a short ride on sunday and rides about the same but I dont hotdog on this bike too much any more due to age ,parts and 07 is the ride of choice.:thumbsup:Sorry for hyjacking the original post and thanks for the interest.

I would love it. Haven't had a chance to meet any Viffers yet due to my ride being un-rideable. I have a weird schedule due to retail management and I live, how should I say, in the sticks. Let me know your availability and I'm sure we can make it work! I'll PM you my business address and my home address right now to give you an idea.

Very interesting ToeCutter. Nice work.

Now you need a highmount exhaust to show off the SSSA.

I'm thinking a double-barrel undertail exhaust with the super-trapps could look pretty good.

TOE went to town to get us beer. We had no idea he was gonna bring back an 18 pack. He wheelied out of the driveway. we all saw that. He also said he tried to wheelie with the beer, no one saw it but I bet its true.
I want that 86. Someday when we are all old and grey I will have it.
