I can relate. I think there is an inherent belief that something mass manufactured has a better chance of being good. Even with the advent of the internet, there is still some hesitation on dealing with an unknown entity. I'm not saying this is right, but that it seems so. I have a local upholstery guy and I trust him to be honest, but he really doesn't do a lot of motorcycle seats. I did have him do one and he did a great job for a good price, but I was still leery of him the first time I dropped something off there.

Pretty much like comparing one bra to another. They are still a one size fits all situation so your opinion will depend on whether you have big tits or little, saggy or perky, wide or narrow, pointy or flat.

Should work if you are an ass man too.

The above may be why Princess Norcalboy is pissed this time. A tight bra has to be nearly as bad as bunched up panties.

I don't think the backrest is an option for the vfr saddle. Only some models have a backrest available it looks like.

No scary upholstery movies but I did just buy a cookie cutter sargent seat. I did not want to modify my stock seat. I read enough reviews on the sargent seat to think it would be fine for me. I got one it it is better then fine for me. Had it for about two weeks now and I love it more each day. It does exactly what I hoped for. Perfect comfort and no more smashed balls. I can tuck right back and in and it feels perfect. Plus my girfriend finds her part to be far better as well. I may pick up a torn up stocker and find a local guy to see what he can do with it at some point.

I'm sorry, but that there is funny.

With some creativivity IMO a small bra might be useful when becoming untucked unless we are talking the basketball size balls on every HD site.

As a custom seat guy. I did try the stock vs cookie cutter route a couple of times. (Corbin) Never again.

I'm just not going to wear a ball bra. Not gonna do it. Whatever it even is.
The stock seat tilted in toward the tank. Gravity was not my friend. Braking was the enemy. I don't wish to do core exercises to protect my nuts.
I got a new sargent seat. It feels exactly perfect for my no assed, 5' 10" 180 lb body. It also feels great for my properly assed female pillion.
When I am done with this bike I will put the unmolested stock seat back on and sell the sargent. Probably cost me less then having the stock seat redone.

I only wear ball bras on the weekends. I have a nice push up that gives me good cleavage. Don't knock it 'till you try it.

Sargent seems like the overwhelmingly popular choice and most seem very happy with it. It sounds like you're happy with yours. As is your "lovely assed female pillion." (Just imagining the intros - "Hi, I'm MG. And you must be the lovely assed female pillion.") I've decided to pick up a used stock seat when one becomes available and have it custom fit for me. I wonder if I should wear my ball bra during the measurements ... Anyway, I'll keep the stock seat untouched (which isn't really that bad for me) and ride with the custom. I've seen stock seats for around $100 on eBay and a quick search for custom motorcycle seats showed prices around $75 to $100. Seems to make good sense.

Sargent seat is very comfortable on long rides, at least that's what I found. In city riding, you'd probably wont even notice the difference.

BTW, my almost pristine stock seat is up for sale, if anyone is interested :)

Sgt two piece I use when riding two up

    Corbin Smuggler when riding solo

I am happy to report that I love them both. Each is fine for the riding I do with them.

Sgt with the two up is comfortable and single with the Corbin for Sport riding.

All of the above is an excellent reason for a plug for Rich's Seats.

To anyone with the Sargent seat, how do you secure the front solo section if you are going to ride with the cowl and not the rear seat?

I just bought a used Sargent seat so don't have any manual. If I take off the rear seat and put on the cowl, it seems like the front section can slide around a bit. The only thing that stops it is when it rubs into the cowl. Is that how it's supposed to work?

Yeah, I never had it slide around. I think the cowl kind of bit into it a little and it didn't seem to cause any issues. I pretty much always leave both on now, though.

I finally did just that this past Tuesday and love the Rich's seat. I found that on my return home ride, over three hours in the saddle, I never found the desire to stand up or get off the bike to give the toosh a break.

That's weird. On the 8th Gen VFR the solo seat has two bolts to hold it in place. Maybe someone lost your bolts?

I like my Sargent seat - it's gone coast-to-coast for me. I'd recommend it, but any new buyer should talk to the folks at Sargent on the phone and tell them what you want, in shape, firmness and covering material. It's not like there's just one seat they can build.

    Good read, thanks.

Are used Corbin seats worth anything to anyone?
At this point I'm looking at possibly finding a used stock seat since the Corbin on this bike it pretty hard, flat and wide IMHO. I'll probably hold out to find a local person that has one on their bike so I can try it out first.

On the 5th gen, there's a shaft or bolt or tube I guess that runs across and the Sargent sort of clips onto it sliding forward. It looks like it could slide backward, but it did not in my experience.

I always buy Corbin seats for my bikes, but this thread convinced me to try the Sargent this time. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they make one for the 8th gen VFR. Am I wrong?
Corbin does a seat for the 8th gen, but unfortunately only the long banana-style, which doesn't look as sporty to me. It does look comfy though.
