Received the eccentric today from Rick Oliver, it is even better when it's sitting in your hands, excellent piece. I actually picked up the box of stuff and wondered if it was even in there.....I'm interested see how much weight that one piece saved over the OEM eccentric.

Also received a couple other bits from Rick:

A new double bubble screen, very impressed with the quality. Even though I had all of the fairings replaced and custom painted, so I could save the stock pieces, I'm pretty sure the screen is the OEM screen. For my height, the double bubble gives perfect airflow.

Also picked up an aluminum upper cowl stay to replace the stock steel version. It's a nice piece, fabricated from 6065 rod, instead of just tubing. It's a pretty stout piece. Should work well with the Tyga aluminum meter stay. Need to get them out for powdercoating....

Received another shipment of ti hardware. All the case bolts for the stator cover, so that is everything on the left side of the engine. Also grabbed the mounting bolts and some washers for the side stand, because I'm redoing the side stand assembly with all new hardware and having that powdercoated, and a couple of options for attaching the upper cowl stay to the frame. From the tank forward, there aren't many steel parts left, fork springs, a few bushings and circlips, fork stanchions, wheel bearings and races, the braking surface of the brake discs, the caliper bodies, and the triple bearings, races and steering stem. Just need to get those PVM wheels......the front PVM weighs just 6 pounds, minus the tire. Some day.....just not today.

I just saw this! Too funny...actually, I already have a tool to hold it....a ti scratch awl that I shaved the pointy bit off.......I actually didn't intend it to be for this, but I got a tad hamfisted and chingered it up, way back when, and have been using it for just this purpose for years now. If I really wanted to get fancy, I could just attach an enduro axle pull that fits inside the axle itself......I have one laying around somewhere.....

Forks and DLC coated stanchions going out this morning for the rebuild and new cartridges. Going to be dropping the engine as soon as that stuff ships. Frame, Suspension linkage and swingarm to vapor blasting tomorrow morning. Have all the bits to start cleaning up the engine exterior on the way. Once the engine is all prettied up, the case covers are going out for vapor blasting and coating.....trying to put a little andale on it :Blah:

Wow, you had a long wait to get the bike. You didn’t waste any time tearing into it. Great pics, it looks pretty clean.

I would have been tempted to take it for a spin prior to dissasembly. Interested to see how much weight is removed after it is all done.

By my standards, the thing was a complete trainwreck. Too much to even list. It looked ok, until I took all the fairings and the gas tank off and really started looking at it in detail. Granted, it's a 25 year old machine, but it hadn't been taken care of. I just needed it to run good, and it did that pretty decent, so now I have the base. I was prepared to do this anyway. Don't know what's up with your package...it's been checked by customs like 8 times since it got to the UK. Now it's being held in customs in Coventry, but it says it's still on for tomorrow.

OK, i'm no ingineer, but the lower triple clamp seems unusually thin and held by just one bolt ?? Something that will be upgraded ? it might be sufficient, but seems below the standards set so high on this bike. show me two bolts per side at least.

Got a jump on the fork shipping a couple days early, as the headstock pin my buddy modified, showed up a lot quicker than expected. The Pit Bull quoted Standard Pin + #2 adapter DOES NOT fit the RVF400 stock lower triple, or the Tyga lower triple. We have tools that make tools and the craftsman to run them..... The forks and stanchions should hit Fast Bike Industries on Thursday, then I can discuss the particulars of what I would like to see done. David Behrend is a treat to work with, and we have been kicking around ideas, and I think I have a path figured out.

Sent the clutch, both throttle, and the choke cable to Motion Pro to have some custom ones fabbed up....noticed a couple things with the ones off the machine that I wanted corrected, to make them more easily adjustable and user friendly. Pretty sure they weren't stock, so now they will be a matched set.

Sent a ti front wheel spacer to my machinist buddy in Maine to have it fixed, it was a little long when compared to the OEM part and I didn't want it binding up the forks when installed and torqued up. So off it went to get a little shave on the mill. This guy does some excellent work, and I will be showing a few of his bits during the reassembly process.

Made some other progress this afternoon, got the oil drained, removed the kickstand and mount, and got the rear hub disassembled so I can get at the shock and linkage to yank the swingarm. The shock is going to recycling and the linkage and swingarm are going to the day spa to get vapor blasted and cleaned up. The swingarm is coming off tomorrow, as it's going to the spa, as well as the frame. Linkage and swingarm are getting all the bearings, seals bushings, and bolts replaced after the blasting is done. I have been soaking all of the engine mount bolts in preparation for dropping the engine tomorrow. Have a huge list of things I would like to see get completed this week. If I can get through the next two days on schedule, I should be ready to start bolting a few pieces back together by the end of the week. Having 6 months to prepare was helpful, and I got a new lid that's coming tomorrow....had forgotten all about it until I checked my email.

    As it sits this evening:

I'm just glad I have an entirely new eccentric and all of the assembly parts....the bearings were a rusted up mix of water and grease. The swingarm also contained a little gravel that I had to work at with a shop vac, before I could pull the eccentric without destroying the pinch surfaces on the inside of the swingarm. Tomorrow is another day......

Hahahahahahahaha, you haven't been down here in awhile...there is a huge leo presence here, so no, I didn't head down I-10 at 120...the speedo is in KMH right now, so I have no idea what speed I was going, :Noidea: but I just stayed with the flow of traffic.

I was just teasing you, S-Man! The OEM RVF triples and front wheel are known to be weak links...haven't addressed the wheel issue yet, but I'm pondering the subject. I gotta get this other crapola handled so that I can get the parts ordered up for our little project, that needs to happen before any wheels get done.
