The carburators of the 1986 or so VFR700 pours gas whenever the bike is running. According to a certain manual that includes instructions on how to take the carburators off. Everything that supposedly needs to be removed or loosend has been, and yet they refuse to come off. Any ideas as to what the issue with the carbs is? And any ideas as to how to remove the carburators?

First, what ever you do ......DO NOT REMOVE THE MANIFOLD. The carbs come off as a complete unit. That being said they can be difficult to remove if they have bee on there for a couple of decades and some careful prying at the rear of the assembly can be required. Make sure all the boot clamps are very loose and pry as needed to get them started, once they start to come of it will be a snap. If they are that difficult to remove new boots will be a must.

Don't try lifting evenly. Instead go around and lift hard on each corner until you see the assembly starting to rock, then go around again pulling harder and carefully prying with wood here:

Usually need to get them rocking more and more at each corner before they finally pull off if your boots are hard and cold. Only in the factory service manual do carbs just easily POP on and off.
