Hello everyone, i got myself for my 40th a 5th gen VFR , love it !

My quick question is: i got from eBay a fender eliminator bracket and i need to cut the original huge bulky ugly black fender. before doing this and talking to friends, one pointed out that if i remove it, since it goes down a lot , will the water reach the passenger (when i have one) or my luggage when on a camping trip or will the water stay out or arms way.

Anyone did the modification with great results? Does the water from the turning wheel reaches the passenger?
Before using my trusty Dremel ...know what i mean.

many many thanks in advance !

Kind of depends how much meat you take off the rear fender. I would be concerned about not only getting water and other stuff on your passenger and your luggage but caked on grunge around your battery box, wiring harnesses, tail light assemblys ect.

Not sure but your rear fender is probably ABS plastic the same as the fairings. A Dremel may generate more heat that is wanted to cut this type plastic. Maybe a plastic cutting blade ( no offset pitch-lots of fine teeth) and cutting it manually might be better. To do precise cuts a trick is to apply masking tape to the area and draw your cut marks on the tape. Go slow or better, take the whole fender off the bike and brace the shit out of it before starting any plastic surgery.

I cut mine with a utility knife, I just kept scoring it over and cut mine off.....looks much better now, but havent had it out yet in any rain, also had to put a hugger in there too to finish it off .

    hello storm,
nice modification. havent you problems when you ride at bad weather conditions ?
i think the passenger or the luggage will be wet and / dirty or muddy ?
and yourself, do you stay dry - only after your modoifacations, when you ride at bad weather conditions ?

    kind regards

What Storm said. Except I also painted the underfender to match the body and waxed it real good. Also use a hugger. Yes, when it rains I get SOME water thrown up, but not a lot.

Looks so much better, and how often do you ride in the rain anyway?

I've completely hacked mine off...made a custom bracket. Have not ridden in rain, but have not noticed any grunge on the taillight either...

i noticed some small "stains" or marks on the plate when i ran into some wet spots, but i rarely ride with a passenger.
ANd for us too, rain is part of our riding summer haha

i'll keep you posted about this issue.
    thanks

btw it looks great "live" and the led lights at night... perfect.

Everybody is mentioning putting on a hugger, does anyone have a particular hugger in mind? I did a google search and I was getting manufactures in England. Is there any in the US?
