got a bargin on trade Me (NZs Ebay). I box with VF750F written on it someone found cleaning out their shed. They couldnt tell me what was in it, I got it for $10. It was like a Christmas present when it arrived. New oil filter, cam cover gaskets, lots of different size jets and needles, and lots of other little bits and bobs.

Painted the frame with many coats of Epoxy Enamal

    Feb VF750F 036.jpg

Painted the old red & primered front gaurd and under belly - Gloss white with Epoxy Enamel, they are only temporary until I find original white ones in good condition on my side of the world.

    Feb VF750F 035.jpg

Opened the sump up to clean the oil pump gauze filter, and just as well I did, it was soooo dirty, almost completely blocked with old residual silicon off somebody getting carried away with gasket sealer. I also found these two items in the sump. I think they must be off the Cam tensioners/guide. from what I can see they are all complete, any other suggestions of where they could be from would be appreciated!

The manual says to check the pressure relief valve but doent say how to do this...so I diddnt. How likely is this to fail and if I really should be checking can someone please tell me how?

Last but not least my new body parts are travelling to this side of the world - Thanks to Dutchwurx!!

Now that's my kind of package. I'd be thrilled to open that and I don't even have a 750! Can't wait to see them on.

    Monthly update.

So this month I got the frame / swingarm reassembled, swingarm bearings already had fresh grease and were very new looking so PO must have done this. (thats about all they did LOL)!
Stripped, cleaned out grey sludge from forks. Painted the outsides and baked them in the BBQ - thins prevents 1. hot paint smell in house 2. Strange looks and noise from her indoors!!

Replaced seals and reassembled filled with new 10wt fluid....found left over seal support washer - Damn I knew I rushed it. Following night drained and re-stripped fork....the wrong one. AAAAARRRHHH. Never mind they are all done now and back on bike.

Got the new 4-1 fitted and centre stand still works fine so that's a bonus!
New / second hand Remus carbon fiber muffler is looking like its gonna work out. Will joining to the 4-1 system with a V clamp system.

Received my James Daugherty modified CBR shock this week and got it bolted in. (Thanks JD it is a nice bit of kit - glad I didn't fab one up my self, I can see a bit of homework had gone into your design.)
Have to suss out where to bolt the Pressure canister.

Now I'm onto re-kitting master brake cylinders and maybe canisters, re-kitting carbs and finding replacements for all the perished rubber mounting bits. Also Iv'e gotta realign the front fairing frame. Diddnt notice how badly bent it was until Iv'e gone to strip and paint it.

That's beginning to look more like a proper motorcycle now, Rainman! I guess I'd better get my butt in gear to get caught up to where you are in your "reanimation." I especially like your exhaust - really unique for a gen 1 bike! Lookin' good...keep the updates coming!

Thanks Pops, I'm undecided if the exhaust is a good thing or not. Diddnt have much choice as I didn't want to ship a collector and mufflers from the States due to cost. Glad you like it that's a good sign. I'm gonna wait until the body work is on before I finalise how long to have it and at what angle.

Good luck with your Gen 1, my progress will probably slow down now so don't panic!!

    Cam Chain Slipping!!!!!

 Bike was running well, then next time I ran it was back firing badly and I thought the carbs were probably fouling up after relining the tank etc. But no.... I stalled the bike and then it wouldnt turn over. It turns out the cam chains are so stretched that jumps teeth. Not good. To add salt to the wound it appears the oil mod I made was too restrictive and the cams have had a melt down. I wish I had left the motor as is and just kept an eye on it for wear and tear. Now I need a good new motor which are not easily found over here and sumer has arrived.

Look on the bright side. You have a perfectly good bike apart from toasted top ends. There still seems to be plenty of VF750's floating around. It isn't that rare a bike after all. You'll find an engine I'm sure.

    Damb, That blows! :hurt:

Hopefully someone in the community will have an extra motor or upper end laying around, that they need to get out of their way.

Thanks for all the sympathy guys:smile: In the last 12 months while doing up this bike I have only seen a couple of VFs for sale and only one that is being parted. I will put her aside and bid my time until I find enthusiasm and a motor with a good top end. I may have to go out and buy a newer vfr to get riding over the summer!

I am so relieved to have the old girl mobile. Got a few tidy up jobs left but the main job is to get her relicenced for the road! Have ordered a filter type top end oiling kit this time and will fit that at a later date if I see any signs of wear.

Thanks for the encouraging comments guys it all helps!
