So the only bikes I've had were nakeds....easy peezy oil changes. Now I got all this plastic in the way. I searched for a how to oil change but couldn't find anything.

My bike didn't come with the owners manual so I'm kind of stuck figuring everything out. Where do you even check the oil level at? On my 919 it was a window but I cannot find anything like that on this 02 VFR.

You need to remove the left fairing to have access to the oil filter :)
Don't forget to remove those plastic rivets on the bottom and two from the inside
Just feel along the inside edge you will find it. Used a small flat head screw driver
Press in the center of the plastic rivet to release the lock. Now place the screwdriver under the head
And pick them out......Now remove the fairing and Carry on with our oil change

Am I the only one that gets oil all over the header pipes when removing the filter?

I make a handy dandy little funnel thing out of aluminum foil to avoid that.

thanks for the advice, I'm thinking of changing it this weekend. Probably gonna throw in some GN4 like I used in my 919.

I was able to download the manual, that helped a lot thanks for the link.

Great idea. It took a little scrubbing to get the oil residue completely off and a couple of days to for the residue to burn off completely.
