    Greetings one and all.

Sold my prior bike (an '88 ZX-10 that I took through nearly every U.S. state and half of Canada) about a dozen years ago.

But I've made up for lost time in retirement. Bought 10 motorcycles so far this year, mostly salvage titles from insurance companies but a couple of 'deals' on Craigslist.

Mostly I fix/restore them, ride 'em for a couple months and sell them. My goal is to put 500 miles on 50 different bikes before I check out.

Last week I finally found a VFR at a can't lose price. She looks like this currently:

Left side is unscathed. She took a little slide on the right side. All fairing pieces have some scuffing. The nose cowl is broken below the blinker. Crankcase cover is scratched (I painted it for now and am replacing it next week).

But she's getting a racier fairing asap so people don't mistake me for a Toyota Camry.

I intend to keep the VFR as she's a sport bike that I can ride for more than a couple hours at my age. It's hard to admit that age is taking its toll. I'm not there yet.

I still ride my 600rr several times a week. An hour at a time :)

Hope to contribute to the site. I've fixed a lot of bikes, no VFR's though. Do they ever need repairs? :)

What year? Looks like a gen 6?
    They all need repair, eventually.
I just bought a 99 and this forum has lots of info on common problems. I think the V4 is a super cool engine. Take lots of pics when you take it apart to show your progress.

Hi, and welcome! I assume the newer bikes with efi, have lesser issues. Except for that dodhy rectifier and accompanying wiring.

Swapped out my damaged crankcase cover today. Posted a 'how to' in the Mechanics section to help anyone in the future who needs to do this.

Turns out my existing one wasn't actually cracked or leaking. The damage was only cosmetic but it was heavily scarred. Since I'm putting a shiny new fairing on her in a few weeks no sense in not replacing the crankcase cover. It's an easy job on the VFR.

    Welcome to the madhouse. :Welcome:

Nice find. It looks like the previous owner fitted a custom seat which could make longer rides very comfy.

If you do plan on keeping it for more than 500 miles, then you should consider wiring in a cheap LED voltmeter to an ignition switched source. You want the sort which shows volts as a number (13.5v) and can be found on eBay for a few bucks. Whilst this won't stop electrical gremlins, it should allow you to spot if the volts have shot up or dropped through the floor, allowing you a chance to head for some place safe before the battery is drained and you end up stranded at the roadside.

That a quick look at recent posts in the following thread https://vfrworld.com/threads/how-to-fix-common-regulator-stator-failures.39277/
As you can see these bikes have an electrical weak spot which extends across several generations of VFRs including your 6th Gen which really lets down an otherwise brilliant mile munching machine.

    Have fun and ATGATT
