what did you do to your vfr today?

I was out for a ride and stopped for some frozen yogurt. Came back to the bike and the battery was dead. As in, turn the key, everything lights up and then slowly fades away (or immediately if I actually tried to start it). Fortunately, Walmart just across the parking lot. Walked over bought a battery, came back and installed. I do need to check the voltages now that I'm home but I need to cool off first. Lesson learned. I've been suspicious of the battery already because of its age and I should have replaced it before it left me stranded. I bought the bike used 9 months ago and I had noticed that battery was old already.

 

Got new tires.. but had to roll them into storage..

What have I done with my VFR800 today? I gave it to my wife for passing her Full licence exam lol

 

Fitted DSG frame protectors

 

Changed coolant. Engine oil & filter. Detailed & waxed.
Adjusted a bit of the slack out of the throttle grip.
Took off the airbox rubber snorkel, should get more air?
Sure seems it should breath better.
Oh & when I took the airbox lid off to check the filter, the flapper
vacuum module was just hanging, it had come unclocked & fallen down!
Bent the tabs a bit and it screwed on tighter.

 

The small box arrived. Now to start the service.
Service the clutch slave. Replace spring and rubber cup. Bleed clutch.
Front fork seals and oil. Just waiting for Ohlins springs to arrive.
Headstock bearings.
Oil and filter change.
Replace radiator cap. (This one seemed strange to me. But the Honda tech said the spring looses its tension overtime, this has an affect on cooling ability over time, by more than 10%. The bike used to heat up fast. I had a coolant flush recently and at times the bike gets hot really quickly 215 F. It cools down etc, but it also then heats up just as quick. No where near as bad before the flush. So I will try the cap.
My bike is a 2007 VFR800 Anniversary. It sat for 11 years and wasn't used by the previous owner. It only had 1900km when I bought it last year. This is why I am replacing all the consumable parts.

 

Replacing my cush rubbers today. Wow, I don't think this cush drive has ever been off the bike before. Totally corroded/welded together. I took to hitting with a hammer onto a piece of 2x4 but it didn't finally come loose until I took to hitting the axle directly with a sledge hammer (which I didn't want to do but I did manage it without damaging axle. Time to take a break before putting it all back together. And I thought this would be a quick and easy job...

 

Well tomorrow have to swap out that little plastic speed censor nut on my 02.
Anything I should know for this 5 minute fix?

OK, Had a full maintenance and upgrade day.

New Pirelli Diablo Rosso front
Finally installed Power Commander and O2 ends. Found a new place to mount the PC also - Sideways next to rear brake fluid reservoir. Fits well, easy access to adjust, and it frees up under seat storage too.
Installed headers and swapped on my Scorpion exhaust cans for the Delkevic's - which were way too loud for me. Back to a nice low rumble!
Oil and filter change
Pair delete
Installed Throttle Master bar ends with throttle lock
Installed a 3mm shim under rear shock
Lube here and there, a little wiring clean up/organization
Gave her a good wipe down and a little polish too.

Bummer I'm out of town for a couple of weeks...But she's ready to go when I get back!

 

I also have the Delkevics (& like them !) - do you also run the baffles - I don't & the bike sounds just amazing..

 

Changed the battery for a Yuasa 14. Wow! What a difference. Now, to check the voltages and look toward replacing the R/R with a mosfet one, just to be on the safe side. Planning to put some miles on this baby and don’t want to get left stranded!

New cush rubbers made a huge difference! Shifting is so much smoother now. The old ones didn't look too bad but they must have been hardened more they appeared to be.

 

Gots me 8 spoker, stripped it, sanded it, and painted it. Then went to the tire shop and they made a gash in it. F*cking idiots.
Repainted/touched up and clearcoated it, now it's still drying but I couldn't just let it sit there not being on my bike



The most expensive thing when refurbishing this wheel was the can of paint stripper, and it wasn't even good paint stripper...

 

I have the Delkevic shorty with the baffles in. Too loud for me without and for the local law enforcement. Yet Harleys can get away with straight pipes. They just hate fairings. ;-)

Try leaning the bike more - it will give you more tyre to wear out other than the centre 2 inches..

 

Fiberglassed the holes where the front indicators used to be. Time to get rid of those hideous orange things.
