    Well that fucking SUCKED.

Took me a whole Seahawks game to get that gasket off. Couple last parts arriving this week, hopefully test ride this weekend. Afternoon/Evening rides are gonna be rarer now that we've changed from Daylight Savings Time, brrrrrr.

Finally got the c/s sprocket. Went to install and the rubber contacted the bearing lip on the cover. So I had to shave off the raised sections of material on one side.

    Back to together now.

Probably won't be able to test run/ride until this weekend. If it leaks now it's getting pushed in the corner to think about what it's done.

Here's how she's looking now, back together.

Eventually when I dive deeper for some maintenance I'll pull the whole exhaust and re-finish. Probably gonna need a seat cover soon, it's getting pretty stiff from age. Oh, and I want to modify a set of passenger peg mounts to be just muffler mounts. And I might have some custom connecting pipes made to use a set of Two Brothers Oval canisters I have, mounted a little higher with custom brackets. And...

So nice to have that done, been kinda dreading it. A couple little bodywork tweaks before re-install.

Jetting change is awesome. What a difference. No stumbles, thing pulls like a freight train, way harder than before. Stopped by a friend's for a 6 foot beer. Oh, and I swapped rear fenders with one of the other 1000R. This one can be a little more racy, the other one deserves a nicely trimmed unit that looks stock-ish.

    20200531_171509.jpg
Eliminated the front under fairing mounts, they were fouling the front fender in low speed turns with suspension compression. And added some running lights in the turn signal bracket reliefs.

A little project that I've been wanting to do, but putting it off: Eliminating the passenger pegs. I bought a couple off of eBay to hack.
Here's after rough cut on the band saw
    20200804_124245.jpg
And after a couple hours of grinding, blending and sanding:
    20200806_131806.jpg
It's gonna look good. It was about as hard as I thought it would be trying to keep the shapes symmetrical. I've got some casting voids that are exposed that need to be filled. Sand blast and some paint. Cool.

Ordered the exact same sprocket with the best of intentions and had the same "ah fuck" moment when I went to torque the bolt down. Ended up with the plain un-damped cog instead but I feel your pain, I may hang onto it and shave the backside down for the next bike.

Solid work regardless, bike looks great Cap!

Been painting the house, so bike projects (and rides!) have been few and far in between. But I did get these done.

    Before:
    20200820_191848.jpg

    After:
    20200820_192929.jpg

Pretty happy. There still are a few casting voids, but they don't detract too much and blend in with the rest of the patina. The bike is filthy, so when the frame is clean they will match much better. It's the same treatment I did on the forks, and it's pretty damn close.

Capt- in all your various wheel swap adventures, did you ever weigh the various wheels to see if there were unsprung weight advantages and not merely styling or ease of mounting advantages?

At the time I didn't have a good scale. I do now, and will probably start documenting some weights. While un-sprung weight is always something to keep in mind, it wasn't the driving force behind the swaps. The ability to run modern radials was. The fact that it looks cool is a bonus. The wheels I've been using are also dimensionally ideal to achieve what I wanted with the least amount of machining and custom parts, and still look like they could have came on the bike originally. After riding them for a while now, any increase in un-sprumg weight has apparently been well worth it.
