Manual cooling fan switch

    I'm looking to fit a manual fan switch to my 2002 vfr vtec .
    Has anyone done this if so how easy is it to do any tips/advice most welcome

    I used a heavy duty relay because of heavy current draw. Didn't want to run thick wires and limit choices in switches that could handle current (fan motor is fused at 20amps, so should the switch).

    Actually all you do is parallel the thermal switch in the left radiator, which grounds the motor. Doesn't matter if both switches are closed. For added peace of mind, I added a red LED on dash to remind me fan was on.

    Hundreds have done it. It's very easy, just tap into the wire on the rad, place a switch on the wire, and route the other side to a ground. You can use your imagination to find the best place to mount the switch. :cool:

    Hundreds may have done it, but use proper wire and switch to avoid more problems like the stator connectors!

    Easy as pie. I also used a 20amp inline fuse. No led to remind me its on. But you can hear it. So, unless you walk away from it for 5 hours, you won't have much of an issue.

    Micro switch installed into the stock, left side, switch gear housing. Stock gauge wiring, soldered and shrink wrapped. Nothing fancy, easy to operate without removing your hand from the bar.

    You could also do one of these and mount it to the back of the clutch master:

    I have used their stuff and it's rock solid.

    Somebody will probably think it's like running with scissors, but I have used these 10 amp switches on multiple bike fans with no problems.

    Hi All, got a 5th gen with a manual fan switch, is the fan supposed to blow out or in? common sense says out.

    The OEM fan blows inward. I guess the reasoning is that Honda didn't want the headers to heat up the air before going over the radiator. Some people switch out the fan blades with a VTR one which reverses that.

    Understood, seems to make more sense to have fan blowing with natural air flow.wonder if one could just R&R fan and turn blade over.?

    You can’t just turn the fan over, I got a fan for another model (can’t remember) and put manual switch and relay to turn fan on manually on my 6th gen. All that is required is to parallel the thermal switch in the left radiator, use a relay because motor draws a lot of current, otherwise you will need heavy wire and a 20 amp switch.
