So I'm starting to do the restoration of the 86 750 RC24 I picked up last fall. The white wheels look rough and probably need a repaint. Has anyone done this and what paint did you use? I'm starting at the bottom of the bike and working my way up. The carbs will need some love too if I want to actually ride it this year.

    Thanks,

    Bill

[IMG] Duplicolor makes a wheel paint that sprays nice and has proven to be durable. I've done 5 sets with it, about to do another.

Did you media blast the rims first before painting, and did you clear coat after the paint coats?

Thorough cleaning and sanding of the outer rim area. Final clean with some strong etching wheel cleaner made for unfinished rims. Etching primer anyplace that needed to be sanded down to bare alum. No clear coat, as it can have a tendency to yellow a bit on white. I use Duplicolor wheel clear coat on every other color.

I did recently do a compatibility test with the expensive two part 2K Clear in a can and the duplicolor wheel paint (silver) and there was no reaction. That clear shouldn't yellow on white.

Thanks for the detailed explanation Captain! I'm about to do some wheels and other parts on my new-to-me Silverwing scooter; has quite extensive corrosion so will be following your suggestions.
