First bath in roughly 20 yrs. Pulled plugs, sprayed lube on the valves, pulled the timing cover and see if the engine spins.
No stick and rotates freely! Enough compression to push the plugs up a little.
Can I do a compression check while turning the bike over by hand? image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

There one of the most visually pleasing bikes made...to my eyes. Same as the FJ. Congrats. I'm envious.

Wow, she cleaned up real nice. Mostly undamaged bodywork on these bikes is RARE.

The white tank is odd (as in not stock), but I like it.

This cap is exactly like the cap in my VTR. There's another listing that shows the OD measurement and it is identical.

Alright, gave the bodywork an initial cleaning and fitment check. So far so good. I will check compression shortly. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Sweet!! This link worked ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/376028547078? ). Thanks Capt!!

I tried to check compression, but it will only go to 60. It holds, but I a total newb on what makes a compression test work. I had no plugs in and no carbs on, turning by hand.
I hope there is a better way or some config I am missing. I went from "hey maybe I can sell the bodywork" to "hey if it runs I may keep it". hahaha
I really am a sucker for white wheels and I love the single floating rotor look. Cool little bike.

The key for the ignition does not work on the helmet/seat lock so that is a bummer. I removed the locking mech so I don't accidentally lock the seat on.

Look forward to compression input. Have a good Sat night!

You have to crank it at speed. With a helper, you can put battery voltage from a car battery directly to the starter. Throttle WIDE OPEN.

Or jump to the battery leads so you can use the ignition and starter button.

I can't do throttle wide open, there are no carbs. So, it sounds like no need to find carbs first or put in the other spark plug, just turn it faster?

No carbs = throttle wide open. But you do need to spin it up. The other cylinder (without a plug) doesn't affect the one your testing.

You might squirt a little oil in the cylinders and hand crank for a bit before spinning it up. Same goes for the cams. With the carbs out is a good time to pull some covers. Plus you can check out the cam condition.

Awesome info. Unfortunately (maybe) we are trying to prep for Japan this week, and I couldn't make time to get to it. Possibly Wednesday evening. :)

All good. I am looking forward to a new Arai helmet and riding gear from Japan. We will also be visiting some "used shops" while in town. See if I can find some diamonds in the rough. Upgarage is the company. They are like goodwill for moto parts. haha

I ran the front a little longer but I think they are both about 200psi. Yay

I added a little oil down the spark plug hole and kinda sprayed over the cams, chain and a littl below. I figured more wouldn’t hurt. Hahaha
