I found out yesterday when I started contemplating doing a v-tec valve adjustment on my own. I know there was once a very good tutorial with pics that would even rival the 8 x 10 glossy photos documenting the horrendous garbage crime near Alice's Restaurant.

Such a shame. I am surprised that no useable backups exist. I suppose the backup concept as I think of it went out of fashion a few years ago. Even where I work backups dont exist (they use sharepoint). Archive.org has limited possibilities when it comes to forums.
This also mean that the vfrd library of manuals went down the drain.

The scope and feeling of loss gets bigger the more you think about it. Kinda weird.

While I like VFRWorld very much, it would be really cool to see a definitive VFR Website (that's not FB) get created with modern, intuitive forum software and engaged owner(s). A mix between donations and a well thought out advertising program. I don't think the current climate will ever allow it to happen. Dinosaurs. I'm just gonna wander off near these tar pits looking for the download section...

Again, not a dis to this place. Just day dreaming.

    Long live VFRWorld!

As an Admin, are you able to set up a page here to receive service manual uploads MD?

Yeah, this. It would have been nice if there was a chance at a VFRD pre-retire announcement, emails exchanged, glasses raised, high fives on a good run. But it is what it is, Miguel had a perfect storm of technical challenges and although it may have eventually been resurrected, he does have a day job. It is a big loss of historical knowledge and connections. Glad I got to meet and ride with him back in '09, and many more members over the years.

Hopefully the vfrd faithful can find vfrworld as a new landing spot.

Michael has also been running this site a long time, so all credit to him. An email from my way back machine...

I am still in the process of migrating the vast collection of technical information from the old site to the new site, and it's going to take some time. But, the new site is up and running with a brand spanking new user interface.....

.....Check it out, let me know what you think.

I bet between us all we could probably pull together a library of manuals for all the different versions and types fairly quickly. It will be the 'how to' guides and various good ideas people photographed and documented that will be one of the biggest losses.

I logged in last week and saw the new dark UI and was a little confused, figured was an upgrade or something. Then greeted with Plesk placeholder, now browsers warning site probably not safe.

While I can understand Miguel's reluctance to resurrect the site, it'd sure be a shame if all of that knowledge is lost.

Even if the recoverable content is over a year old, I would think that would be of immense value.
Instead of an active site, let someone set it up as a read-only repository.

I downloaded the following manuals from VFRD
    Service manuals:
    1st gen
    3rd gen
    3rd and 4th gen combined
Three versions of the 5th gen
Two versions of the 6th gen (2002-2007), one with bookmarks
    8th gen

    Owners manuals:
    2nd gen (1986)
    6th gen (2006)
    8th gen (2014)

    I also have a 3rd/4th gen microfiche, a 2006 microfiche, and a Clymer manual for the VF500F.

I agree. A great loss. So hoping MelloDude finds a away to create a download section here for 'our' library.

But that won't replace the sense of connection from the ability to post in threads.

I'm a complete luddite for website technicalities, so can't help with that side of things.

Just heard about this today, and it's a damn shame. For as vast and impersonal as much of the internet is, VFRD felt like...home. No question too dumb (I know. I asked them all.) and such a quantity and quality of great, usable advice that is just...gone and inaccessible now, it's a bit sad to hear it's dead.
