Most snowmobiles, especially the two strokes use exhaust springs. Have you checked with any of the dealerships or parts suppliers in your area?
When you adjusted the valves did you need to remove/ replace any of the shims? If so I wonder if the valve timing could be slightly off.

Idle should be at 1200 ish with a warm engine. That might help with the staring problem.
