Dude, it could easily be an R/R and changing the stator would be a miss. The post above has the link on how to sort it out.

Wow, that seems to be a big hint. Looks like K&N has a quality control issue. -- Never have had the itch to try one, but this kinda cements it.
You may have only needed an R/R and the stator could have been good. Its better to diagnostic tests first before spending money on parts. btw...

That thing in your 1st pic is a engine/fuel cutoff tipover switch. -- Never had to deal with one...... The bikes not gonna run with it...
