Those are slightly more likely to crack the fairing, i believe, if the bike goes horizontal while steel rods will bend and minimize damage sometimes.
there are 2 alternative styles of those support rods. one is a hollow steel rod with bent ends, and the other is a solid aluminum rod with screw...

less work than wrestling with a wire harness, just replace the cdi. test that cdi is supplied with 12 volts when key and run switch are on.
