a useful photo would show the underside of the cap, showing the 2 tabs that lock the cap in place. any prying damage will be obvious and need repair.

yes, could be a bad (stuck closed) thermostat.
in traffic and while at idle speed, battery normally gets no charging+ the fan is running, drawing more power.
ONE MORE bolt holding the cap ..........under the cap :cool:
