I think the question is how would you, a very difficult layout on any gen to pull that off. Maybe I am just out of the loop.

Rarther odd but anything can break, I think it would be worth the effort to remove the body work and inner fender and have it welded back in place .
There is a petcock under the tank, could just remove the tank and drain into a can. Hehehe....petcock.
