Using a paint or punch or scribe mark on the gears before removal makes alignment alot easier later.
If carbs weren't leaking b4 it means you did somethin wrong, dunnit ?? :numbness: Second thing wrong was not testing carb assembly for leaks b4...

What oil r u running, and how warm/cold is your weather there ? Is knock louder with engine cold or hot ?
If the bike was stored properly with carbs drained and if you make certain the fuel tank is clean, just try starting it and see if the carbs need...
OP would have been well advised to have a meter and verify charging ok b4 the first ride on any year VFR always. :cower: Push far enough often...
Best to use a spray of contact cleaner around the switch as access to contacts is limited, i believe.
