I've been looking for a voltmeter, and ran across a BMW owner who built his own that I liked a lot..... so I figured I would replicate his work....

Wires in test. In the final setup, the positive is spilced into the Engine Run wire (White/Yellow in the red 9 pin connector), negative to one it...
Routing the power wires to the right side connectors (Recall repair now has all accessable ground wires routed to the right side)
