'04 Stalling/Lack of Power

I don't know if I should be posting this here or in the Mechanics thread, but here goes.... My new to me '04 vfr (non ABS) w/ 18k miles stock engine except for pair and flapper mod (thanks Guys), has been stalling out on idle its done three times now in the last 1k miles. Also, i've had like zero power under acceleration and then out of nowhere back to full steam. Almost like a vacuum in the fuel tank.... which would be an easy fix but there are more hoses under that tanks than I could shake a stick at. Am I on the right track what do you guys think??? Other than that I can honestly say this is a wicked fun bike. Any help would be more than appreciated
