New to this site.... Just purchased a 1992 VFR750 which is in need of some TLC. The speedometer/odometer is not working at the moment... the previoius owner suggested it was the speed sensor... I have ordered a speed sensor, but I am wondering if there is a way to manually spin the existing sensor to make sure where my problem is. Also, I cannot find anything on the speed sensor in my manual... Is there a website, video, or place in the manual I can look which will explain to me how to get to the sensor and test it? Also, the plastics are hammered and the rear of the bike (tail lights, etc) are held on by a bungee cord. Is there a place I can buy new plastics? I have ordered new rotors, pads, speed sensor, windscreen, and mirrors and want to continue to knock out problems.... any help is much appreciated.

Download the service manual for 1990-1993 bikes. Some of the online parts suppliers have blowups of systems and sub systems that indicate how things work. ie your tach and speedo.

New plastics OEM are scarce. The Chinese fairing kits are not all that good. With some pix of your hammered plastic, some repair may be possible. Mirrors can be obtained. OEM's are pricy plenty of aftermarket stuff out there than is just as good.

I'd mike the rotors you have to see if in fact they need replacing.

    1. Speedo/tach is run off a gear drive in the left crankcase cover. Connector often breaks and allows free rotation/ Also cable driven and it can break.

    2. Fiberglass fairings available from airtech-streamlining.com as well as poly29.com in France and davidsilverspares.co.uk in UK and Thurn in Germany which I cannot find at this time.

Or watch ebay.com or ebay.co.uk, or here.

Or learn how to patch your own plastic. Threads are on this site, the search function is your friend. Remember, 90-93 are the same save color. Paint is cheap, or go custom.

Observing the law of diminishing returns is a good idea too.

Your speedo is driven off the counter-sprocket. There is a white button that goes over the bolt. You can remove your cover (its where the clutch slave/speedo assembly) remove the outer bolts and take the cover off. Remove the speed sensor off cover. Dollars to donuts, the square is wallowed oot (canadian spelling.) You can order a new one.

Law of diminishing returns comes into play with a lot of things. If you regard it as Monopoly money, it makes your decisions easier.
