Very few people outside the Chinese community ate them 30 or so years back but they are now becoming quite the delicacy. I've read a report where 30 years ago they sold for 20 cents a kilo and now sell for $50.00 a kilo. Same report says they harvest about 6 miliions tonnes (1 tonne metric = 1.1 tons) a year. Half from the wilds of BC and the other half from farmed clams in Peuget Sound Washington.

Ya. I agree. And wonder how accurate that claim is. Seems to be a lot doesn't it?

 

Those are available in Tillamook. I've had to dig them before. No need to go to that third world country north of the US. That don't speak any intelligent language and have a hard time cornering on motorcycles in oncoming traffic or hairpins on the PCH in Cal.
