The Supertrapps have scuff and dent damage as shown in the photos on page 1. My intent, if I keep them, is to remove the dents, sand out the scuffs, apply high heat filler if necessary to smooth things out and paint them with VHT black. If you want them as is, make a rediculous offer.

If Elysse is not interested, I may be interested in the Supertraps. I dont care that they are dented and scuffed when they will be used for the track.

    Just let me know....

Haha, I wasn't too worried about the dents and scuffs either- my plan is similar to yours, although I would skip the painting. I honestly have no idea what to throw out there as an offer, so you tell me what's ridiculous... I'll probably agree. :)

Hello, I've just joined the forum, as my son just picked up an '86 VF500F. Got it for $650. Basically very complete, but needed a carb OH. Discovered the airbox from the metal plate at the carbs on up is AWOL.

Now I see you've got one. How much and shipping to Orlando, FL, 32766?

Looking forward to more participation on the forum.

    Kirk

I do have the airbox, no cracks or holes, how does $25 sound? The UPS calculator says shipping will be $18, but this could vary somewhat either way. Do you have a Paypal account?

Sounds great! I'll take it, thanks, and anything you may have associated with it - the filter, hoses, screws, etc. Yes, I do have a Paypal account. Let me know the final amount and the name or account or whatever, and I'll send you the money that way.

    Thanks, again,

    Kirk

Don't have the filter, it was dry, brittle and not so good looking, so I tossed it. I do have the screws. I'll box it up over the weekend and ship it Monday. I'll send you a PM with my Paypal info. Thanks.

Hey Creaky! I wanted to let you know I got the 'trapps installed this morning. I know you wanted a picture, and I figured other people would want one too (you know, for reference and stuff..)

Sorry that it's a garage picture, but it's raining out today.

They both line up pretty evenly on each side, sound great, shined up nice.. of course, I'll be doing some tuning once I've gotten all the leaks buttoned up- it appears that the joint to the collector is considerably smaller than the 'trapp's slip-on.
I'm not exactly sure why the P.O. of the set decided to use something like 22 discs in each can (ultra lean! ultra loud!), but it was advantageous in this application to have spares to work with as some of the discs were bent and warped from whatever crash he did.

Hey, Kirk, let's all hope that your son experiences the joys of the VF500 rather than the more common agonies.

Unless the plastics are good and the fuel tank rust-free, the rule of thumb on that bike is about $400 if you don't hear it run.

    Good luck !

Yeah, plastics and paint were very nearly perfect and the tank was completely clean. It needed the carbs disassembled, cleaned and reassembled, the airbox (which is now all assembled - thanks) and routine service - oil and filter, drain and replace coolant, bleed the brakes, and it gets new tires tomorrow (praise UPS).

Here it is the first evening home, and again ready for his maiden voyage.

Now, we discover the petcock leaks out a drip or two when you turn it. Gotta do some searching... I KNOW I read a thread with pictures about rebuilding an '86 petcock, including drilling out the rivets and replacing 'em with tiny metric screws.
