There is a song about how I wired the fan - "dodgy wiring done dirt cheap".

In the photo you can see I just solder tacked the pos wire to the live brake light switch wire and the neg to am earth. I really only did it as a temp because I had no idea if the fan would live in this application.

A year or so later and maybe 1500km it still works perfectly.

You haven't mentioned anything about the shock or front springs. I would think just because of the age they would need a rebuild or replacing, are they still in good condition after all this time?

The bike has only done 29665km - so not exactly high k's. My aim is to crack 30000 by end of the year.
Just ordered a Bitubo rear shock, 5mm longer than standard.
So will now have to get onto the front and see what is in there.
Having said that the bike handles fine, a bit soft for my liking but still very good.

New Bitubo Shock is just a few working days away.

How to explain to my wife that it is actually an essential replacement part, not a nice to have.

I will drop the swing arm for a bearing check and regrease, and fit the new chain and sprockets at the same time.
I have to rivet the chain and it will be the first time I've done that so I prefer to rivet the chain on the bench rather than muck about under the bike.

Can't wait to have stock gear ratios for lazier country touring.

Nice! No substitute for quality suspension. Just tell the wife that its gona facilitate you getting to work more safely. Gota drop the dog bones to do the shock so take a look, mine had grease. When you get your rivet tool there is a page in the factory service manual that tells you how far to stake the rivet, my chain tool has a go/no-go little gauge with it. Side bar: my 93 I got used had a badly staked master link, I replaced it with a new $15.00. Cheers

I already bought a spare master link as I am nervous about f'ing it up if I have only one.
It's an RK chain and RK chain tool so hopefully it will work well.

I love getting presents (from myself in this case) in the mail.

Long box. What could it be?

    Whoops, double post.
But just try to imagine that instead of a mistake I've actually written something really witty here.
