air forks?

So i noticed my fork seals leaking, i never really payed much attention to my forks settings since the po was the same size as I am. Upon inspecting them i noticed they dont have a cam or whatever to adjust them but rather air valves.....either the manual doesn't mention this type of fork or i have poor researching skills. So i guess my question is, how do these forks work? Same as any other ( springs, oil and such) or something different?

Its funny how old is new again. Some of the newest motocross bikes have come out with air forks. Im sure they are worlds better than the old designs and also do away with the springs altogether for a weight savings. So i really doubt you are not the only one feeling like an idiot.

 

I had air forks on my cb750k which leaked terrible and when I had them rebuilt they removed the air option added a spacer in the forks and all is good

 

I'm gonna have to have mine rebuilt as they are leaking all over the place. Strange since they didn't show any warning signs just BAM leak

 

First time i tried a bit of air, i liked the ride, but it started weeping fluid. Seems like no one here uses air pressure.

 

Guesz I don't have much for comparison as far as ride goes, I'm just not happy about the fluid all over my garage floor. I'm not sure there is anyone locally that can rebuild them without needing to take out a loan lol. Oh well this is what I asked for buying an old bike

 

With all those farmers there that need to repaIr the hydraulic stuff on their equipment you should be able to fine someone capable. You'll probably need to replace your brake pads too cuz they're soaked and irredeemable.

 

I can work on hydraulics, so ya think its possible for me to do if I have the shop manual? I just assumed it was quite finicky stuff.

 

you can do it. the hardest thing is supporting the front end to get the forks off. 2 beer job

 

I just got done doing mine with the race tech springs and gold valves and it is EASY. If you have any kind of mechanical experience, you can do it no problem. I had mine done in an afternoon. BTW, the ride is sooooo much better with the new valve emulators and spring rates. Hit me up if you have questions.
