Yep that's what I was thinking too. then add in the weather that may bounce in. No need to push it, but knowing her.. who knows.

I'm a beast. Tough on road and in elements. :) 1,200 miles is minor annoyance, yet fun challenge.

I'll keep you updated. I'm making contacts in Albuquerque just in case I get there and chain is scraping on centerstand again. Stay overnight and get it replaced in AM. At least tomorrow is just inservice meetings. :)

    Wow.
An Iron Butt in January, across the middle of the country?

Sending along a prayer for safe travels.

I think the consensus is the adjusting bolt is seized and the hub is working it's way around to loosen chain. Put a magic marker line on hub and swing arm and check for rotation. That is not normal for a chain to do that.

No marker? Use nail polish, that I am sure you have!!

Not really ... I do mine with every lube. It only takes an extra few minutes, literally.

By not cleaning your chain, you're potentially spraying gunk deeper into it when you spray it with lube. But ... then again if your roads are fairly clean, that may not be an issue for you.

    Cracked

Good to hear you're making progress, and you were able to get the Slack Out.
If it goes Slack again, is it a Stretching Chain, or Slipping Eccentric?
Marking the Hub (Allyance) is a good idear.

    Another item on The List;
If the Pinch Bolt was Over Tightened, it may have Cracked the Aluminum Hub.
Check for Hair-Line Cracks (or bigger) in the Pinch Bolt Area.
A Crack may Offset the Pinch Bolt Hole, binding the Pinch Bolt, and not allowing good Eccentric Clamping.

Sorry to seem so Negative, looking for problems,,.. just trying to work the issue with Limited Data.

    Ride Far,
    Ride Fast,

Everyone wants Love's! Just as busy as Costco![IMG][IMG]
    Making progress!
Checked for obvious problems around pinch bolt and hub. Nothing I can see. I'll whip out some nail polish as soon as I can. ;)

Here's progress...or not...on the chain though. Looks like a night in Albuquerque. [IMG]
About 3/4 inch from center stand. Still have 4 hours to go.

Great tune Duccman - I haven't heard that one in ages! :glee:

As for AM - I'm no longer worried about her - she reminds me of these lyrics from another great tune:

But there's no need to panic, it's under control
We're aerodynamic and ready to roll
    Rev on the red line
    You're on your own
    Rev on the red line
    Just let it go

Great tunes!! What a crazy thing to happen today...but all for a reason. I've already made several new friends. I'll post up later. But stopped in Las Cruces. No way I could make it to Albuquerque. Now here's hoping I can find a chain in the morning.

Haha - yeah I saw them in '85 on the Perfect Strangers tour in Lakeland - one of my older brothers was a huge fan and took me. I remember getting high on the second hand smoke and my ears were ringing the entire ride home back to Orlando - in fact I think they are still ringing from that show - LOL - had to be the loudest concert I ever attended.

Cool! I think I still have my old purple tie-dyed concert shirt from the show gathering dust in a closet somewhere - LOL.

Okay sorry for the Deep Purple thread drift everyone - time to get back on the chain gang (sorry, I couldn't resist :beguiled: )

This issue is making me think that I might just want to carry a NIB chain, and the tool to break/assemble one, in the bottom of a bag, when heading out on an adventure of the longer type.

    Glad you're OK, AM!

Thanks for the vintage tunes, ducc and GG! As for AC/DC, give me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2AC41dglnM
