Back to racing .......MacauGP last weekend, finally got around to watching last night

Terrible track, zero run off anywhere, big concrete walls, it made the IOM seem positively user friendly

New rider on finding out he's got a ride there : "Any walls to worry about John?"
John McGuiness: "Only 2, 1 either side"

Very interesting race from the point of view that the BMWs of Jessop and eventual winner Peter Hickman left the Hondas and Kawasakis over 12 seconds behind at the finish, with Tony Rutter 3rd and John McGuiness fighting his way to finish 4th, it was Hickmans 2nd time he'd raced the circuit

Otherwise it was a very dangerous spectacle and makes me wonder WTF is going on there

Rumors aboot racing on the internet? That has to be a first! Does this mean that Joey Dunlop wasn't really cloned?

Yeah Thumbs. I'm familiar with the Macau GP. A friend who runs a track day organization works on Sean Dyers AMA team and Sean has run the Maau 2 times. Crazy dangerous he said. Can't remmber where he finished, lower 1/3 i think but he survived. Very dicey at best.

Noticed a few days ago around midnight motorcycle racing, so just pushed record.
Today got around to watching it and turns out to be Scarborough Gold Cup, wow tight little track at Olivers Mount and sidecars, last time I saw those race was in the eighties at Laguna.
    What motors do the use?

Yes Olivers Mount is a tight circuit alright, but as you saw there's riders brave enough to overtake there

The sidecars use 600cc engines from the various manufacturers, last year the limit was raised to 675cc for triples to allow the Triumph engine to be used

They are pretty rare on the road, I saw about 5 this year, having said that Watsonion had a large stand at the Motorcycle Live show when I went on Sunday, there was also the Russian Ural Mars outfits there, in varying guise from 'deluxe' to full military spec with sidecar wheel drive, typically Russian, you could see file marks under the chrome

I met Michael Dunlop this year, very nice guy to talk to, he wasn't saying about his ride for next year though, there was a very good display at the TT stand where I met him, all the trophies were on display including the Joey Dunlop Rider of the Week trophy

I'll post some pics up when I get a moment

Sidecar racing is still popular. All the way from "desert sleds" to grass track to asphalt. The rules vary.. This from one of the all time champions.

It seems that when Michael does not win he looks to be in almost physical pain. He is driven.

That's yer man Michael, with his racing head on he's as hard as steel, in 'civvies' he's a very engaging guy, he spent ages talking through the best line at Union Mills with me, not that I'm ever going to be going as fast as him at my age

Josh can handle himself against the best, in one meeting he took 1st in race 1 and to try and win a £50,000 ($75,000) prize started race 2 from the back of the grid, he had to win but Shakey Burne wasn't having it

    Well done Josh for trying

Ken Hill (many of you west coast guys may know him,Freddie Spencer Riding School, Yamaha Champions Riding School and his own KH riding school) started a new pod cast on site. He shared it with me yesterday and I asked if I could post it up here and he said for sure. He asked me to post it on WERA too. Pod cast is at the bottom of the page. An interesting take on trail braking and 2 different definitions of apex and how to use them. Enjoy

I'm not a big fan of the mud races. I know it's motocross/supercross and all, but the racing is usually a one line shitfest with everybody rolling the triples. For the first race of the year, I would rather see everybody at full speed. It is good to see that the racing season is kicking off though.
