PI shows how clever MM has become, he's more than just a fast rider, he's come leaps and bounds from his crash prone rookie season. He knows and openly admits when he's not the faster rider and knows how to overcome the speed difference.

I have to say though, there were a lot of impressive rides this race. Even Zarco did well on his first time on a Honda, JL finished way at the back and I believe over a minute behind the race leaders! Not sure if he's just trying to make Honda fire him or if he really is struggling. Perhaps his back braking crash has him overly cautious. With that though, Crutchlow admitted he was a bit frightened to race at PI this weekend because of his near career ending crash last year, yet he overcame his fears and look where he finished. Hats off to Iannone, he did an excellent job on what has been an under performing bike all season.

The only thing I can add to that is Pecco's ride on the '18 Pramac. Best he has looked since testing. Petrucci is on a string of really tough races, he's probably relieved he already sealed his deal for next year. Dovizioso certainly isn't the same since Honda upped their engine output and Yamaha have taken some steps forward from last year. No more slowing the races down to save his tires and blocking the field with the Desmo's hp. Only a couple left, then the long cold winter sets in.

Haven't been around these parts in a while, but ran across this thread looking at some old posts.
FP1 in Malaysia, is it still news when MM saves a front end slide?

Right?, he does it so often you’d think it was just they way he rides...wait, it is! What should be and is on the news front, Zarco made it into Q2 on his second ride on the Honda!

Wow! I’m sure a few were expecting this and a few had a feeling this was inevitable, today Jorge Lorenzo announced his retirement from racing. Valencia will be his last race.

Although not a big fan of his, I can totally respect his riding abilities and what he’s accomplished in his racing career. I’m sure his back breaking (literally) crash contributed to his retirement but still bummer he couldn’t finish his career on the Honda.

Now the question, will Honda hire Zarco to fill his position?

He will be missed. A very impressive career. Best wishes for your retirement, Jorge.

Well glad I got to see all the great Americans race there on the 500’s with the old track.
Rode up 12 years in a row starting 84 when I bought my first street bike,

Back when you didn’t have to wear your helmet around the track, and by this picture apparently my shorts

Is that you with the Oakley sunglasses on? I had a pair of those exact shades in '87.

I remember that year well, I was project manager at the Olympics. I had my VF750 flown down from Toronto and hid my wife’s VT500 on a truck. We left town when they started and ended up at Laguna Seca. Really wern’t prepared for camping out but ended up sleeping on cardboard under our bikes! Great weekend!

Fred Merkel was the man that year, before he went off to WSBK in '88.
