If you have Netflix, there's a documentary on there that, although not as good as the 'Hitting the Apex' and the 'Fast', 'Faster', 'Fastest' movies, still a good time killer for us Moto folks. It's called 'Speed is my need'. It kind of focuses around Leon Haslams 2018 SBS championship. It has quite a few legendary riders doing commentary. Worth a watch if you're bored.

what a bummer that Moto Gp is cancelled in Qatar this weekend luckily Moto3 and Moto2 will be on as they were there already testing, this may have further consequences as a lot of teams are Italian based and maybe the same for WSB as well

The Thai GP has been postponed, as well. Not a good way to start the season, but Marquez and Nakagami won't be complaining about the extra recovery time from their surgeries.

American Racing rider heads the SKY Racing Team VR46 duo by over two tenths heading into Saturday

American Racing’s Joe Roberts set a new Losail International Circuit lap record in FP2 at the QNB Grand Prix of Qatar to end Friday top of the timesheets in the Moto2™ class. Roberts' 1:58.421 was 0.248 clear of intermediate class sophomore Marco Bezzecchi (SKY Racing Team VR46) and his teammate Luca Marini closed out the top three on Day 1.

After topping Free Practice 1 earlier in the day, Tom Lüthi (Liqui Moly Intact GP) had a tricky start to his FP2 after crashing at Turn 14 while on a session best lap – rider ok. There were no such troubles for Tetsuta Nagashima (Red Bull KTM Ajo) though as the Japanese rider, who finished P11 in FP1, shot to the top of the times with the fastest lap of the weekend. In the early stages, plenty of riders were beating their FP1 times, with Marini and Bo Bendsneyder (NTS RW Racing GP) going well in the opening exchanges.

Having finished P4 in FP1, Augusto Fernandez (FlexBox HP 40) then took over the P1 baton with around 25 minutes remaining. However, the Spaniard then suffered a crash at Turn 5 which ended his session early – rider ok. There was plenty of movement on the times to come as Nicolo Bulega (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) climbed to P3, with Marini then going P1 as he and Bezzecchi continued to work together under the floodlights, just as they did in the opening session. But the Italian stranglehold wouldn’t last long as there was an American express turning up the wick. Roberts was setting the timing screens alight and the number 16 went P1 with a new lap record in FP2, beating Marini by over three tenths. It was a phenomenal day for Roberts having picked up P5 in FP1, and the same can be said for SKY Racing Team VR46. On the last lap, Bezzecchi would leapfrog ahead of Marini for P2 on the timesheets as the riders in P7 and P8 in FP1 claimed P2 and P3 in FP2.

Roberts takes first American Moto2™ pole in a decade

Joe Roberts (American Racing) slammed in a stunning 1:58.136 in Moto2™ Q2 at the QNB Grand Prix of Qatar to earn his maiden Grand Prix pole position, with America also seeing their first intermediate class pole in almost a decade. The Free Practice pacesetter’s qualifying time was exactly the same as second place Luca Marini’s (SKY Racing Team VR46), but Roberts’ second best time was faster than the Italian’s. Enea Bastianini (Italtrans Racing Team) completes the first Moto2™ front row of the season.

From the off under the Losail lights, the Moto2™ pace was electrifying. In Q1 Marcel Schrötter (Liqui Moly Intact GP) went just a thousandth of a second of Roberts’ Friday lap record and at the beginning of Q2, fellow Q1 graduate Jorge Navarro (Beta Tools Speed Up) set a 1:58.396 to set the scene for a cracking first Moto2™ qualifying of 2020. Tucked in behind teammate Marco Bezzecchi, Marini then went P2 as the SKY Racing Team VR46 duo sat P2 and P3 in the early stages, but it was an ever-changing affair on the timing screens.
After impressing in Free Practice, Bo Bendsneyder (NTS RW Racing GP) then went just 0.014 off Navarro’s time to launch him into a provisional front row start, but Roberts – having pitted in the early stages in the session – was setting red sectors. On his opening flyer, lapping by himself, the number 16 went to P3 as 0.051 split the leading trio halfway through the session. It was anybody’s guess as to who was going to grab pole but then Marini launched an attack, the Italian setting a new lap record to go P1 with seven minutes remaining. Then, Roberts flashed across the finish line and set the exact same time as his counterpart – the American going to P1 because of his previous lap time being better than Marini’s.

Would that be it? Not quite in terms of the front row as ‘The Beast’ turned up the wick in the east to propel himself into P3. Bastianini going just over a tenth shy of Roberts and Marini to secure his first Moto2™ front row, and that was all she wrote at the sharp end of the grid. Roberts had done it, but it literally couldn’t have been any closer – not that the American will care.

    Top 10:
    1. Joe Roberts (American Racing Team) – 1:58.136
    2. Luca Marini (SKY Racing Team VR46) + 0.000
    3. Enea Bastianini (Italtrans Racing Team) + 0.107
    4. Jorge Navarro (Beta Tools Speed Up) + 0.180
    5. Bo Bendsneyder (NTS RW Racing GP) + 0.274
    6. Remy Gardner (ONEXOX TKKR SAG Team) + 0.321
    7. Marco Bezzecchi (SKY Racing Team VR46) + 0.377
    8. Jorge Martin (Red Bull KTM Ajo) + 0.396
    9. Lorenzo Baldassarri (FlexBox HP40) + 0.446
    10. Xavi Vierge (Petronas Sprinta Racing) + 0.490

Switched from the KTM dog chassis 0f 2019 to the 2020 Kalex, and he got a new crew chief and rider coach. John Hopkins is working with him now. This is the first time he has had the same combination as the front runners.
