Yep I knew that, having been a mechanic on bikes and cars for years, but I was asking about these gold fren pads, and I really try not to read all the internet huff about them

But I understand that there are a lot of Chinese gold fren copies and they are real rubbish, so I think I will bite the bullet and buy some new Brembo Pads, rather be safe than sorry

sorry, i really didn't mean to underestimate your level of experience. the most popular replacement is EBC HH pads i believe.

I have had EBC pads in the Porsche for a while, standard and reds, standard loads of dust, and red don’t work till they are hot, but less dust, and more stopping power,

The problem with that is forgetting to heat them up and needing to stop quick.......,,,

I have found a place I can get a full front set of Brembo for £34

Are there any things I should look out for with taking the callipers to bits, I did notice yesterday that the braided hose may be fitted upside down, as it gets very kinked turning the bars to the left,

I will grab a photo later and get some advice from you all

Is there any way of discovering if the are fakes or real, I’m asking as the bodger I bought the bike off was capable of just about anything

Check list of official Brembo distributors: https://www.brembo.com/it/auto/uso-sportivo/distributori
From one of their anti-countrefeit sites:

    1) The Anti-Counterfeiting Card
    2) Sale of Calipers Alone (never sold alone)
    3) The Cost - too good to be true
    4) The Distributor
    5) The Catalogue - check to see if it's actually something Brembo makes

Once they're separated from packaging and installed, not sure how to tell. Can examine them with magnifying glass and see if there's proper mix of metallic bits?

Suppose you can also ensure they're broken in:
    1. sand discs lightly in radial direction with 400-grit paper
    2. slighly bevel leading edge of pads
    3. break pads in on road, I usually do 6 stops of increasing speed and intensity

Then do some measurements of stopping-distances from 100kph. Mercedes and BMW did some testing several years ago. Fake Brembo pads required lots of extra stopping distance. On some tests, pads started smoking before testing was completed.

Not sure if there are fake Gold Fren pads out there.

    Does it stop?

Seriously, I think its a non issue.

    I'm using the Goldfren S33 - & I do use the brakes...

Thanks For the reassurance, I have done about 200 miles on them and to be honest the feel and power has not changed, there is almost no brake dust.

Out for a ride again this afternoon, really loving it now the fuelling issues are fixed

yeah, seems not worth trouble faking such low-cost items.

When it’s 1000’s of copies it’s worth while, if your making fake brakes it will be all sorts of bikes

The internet is a dangerous place

Ok so I have a question or to for the assembled gurus

When I start the bike from cold is runs on 3 and pops in the exhaust on one cylinder, as it starts to warm this stops and it starts running on 4, I have a IR thermometer and all the pipes seem to warm up at almost same rate?

I don’t really want to strip the carbs for the 6th time

Makes no difference if on choke or not, the main jets are all now 120 and the pilots are standard

The other issue seems to be a very lazy tacho, start the bike from cold and the rev counter takes at least 20-25 seconds before the needle moves

EVERY VF likes a bump on the pilot jet, stock or modified. They start easier, come off of "choke" sooner, and generally perform better. The fuel screw setting can only do so much.

Not saying this is your whole problem, just is a possible contributing factor.
