What are you using for bags or panniers on your 2014 or later VFR800? I may be doing a long trip in June and need bags. Anyone got a set they are not using?

After years of soft luggage I lucked into some hard cases for my 5th gen. There is no going back after you have used hard luggage.

That being said, Firstgear Silverstone bags were the last set of soft luggage I had and they were excellent in every way and I would recommend them without hesitation.

I put a Shad system on my 2014, mostly because i'm cheap and got the whole set for ~$750, using eBay. I haven't used them yet but planning a long trip in a month or two. IMG_2692.JPG IMG_2693.JPG

Stock panniers, not the greatest for putting in large items but they look good and go on n off bike in seconds. I'd go with top case if I had to buy my luggage now. Anyways, I have stock bag liners if anyone needs those!?

Fit and finish on the stock setup is great IMO, side cases are on the smaller side but big enough for my laptop so all is well.

The Shad looks fine, until you see the stock. I just got the topbox for short trips away and because my GF is new to pillion and likes the back rest. fullsizeoutput_13e1.jpeg

The honda bags may look better to some but the are twice the price and I only use the panniers as a tool for travel. I like the looks of the Shad system especially in white and they work fine for me. Ran up to 90 today with full set, bike stayed firm and planted and suspension was spot on with added weight. I wanted a newer, low milage, reliable sport tourer for < $8k that can handle big miles and I believe I have about the best sport tourer available for what I have in her <$7500 total/bike (deluxe)/bar risers/frame sliders/bags/taxes/and 2 new Z8's.

[IMG] Givi 47 and Kappa. Works great for me. A little tight on space for two people.

If you are looking for some high quality soft packs, Kriega makes some excellent “modular” packs that easily scale as needed. I’ve used them in all weather conditions, minus snow, and they continue to keep me impressed.

Shad 3P mounting bar was out of catalog and you only get items from the stock.

I installed last month and it is not comfortable that it looks, its very near to passenger foot. I’m thinking for do a change in the support to get more integrated and confortable.

    Regards

All these pictures are making me jealous. I'm gonna upgrade to an 8th gen to get the ABS and traction control, but I gotta wait another year or two...

As already stated the OEM panniers are great if you can justify parting with that much cash, so convenient, easy on, easy off, lockable and secures to the bike. You will not get an argument from me though that they are ridiculously expensive. Agree with the comments on the Kriega system, I only have a 30lt dry bag but if you are not familiar with there system you can attach smaller sizes to each side of the larger sizes. Check them out. ( mine is mounted left to right rather than front to back in the photo) 00DFBC5D-9D88-467E-89F8-CBC0C1DF66C7.jpeg

I’ve got the Honda panniers, bloody expensive and a tad small but they fit great without any extra scaffolding or piping using the bikes ignition key.
Also use an SW Motech tank bag which clips onto a mount on the fuel filler cap, highly recommend that.
And have ordered a Ventura luggage pack system which is currently on its way from NZ.
Can’t wait to set that up, I’ll post a pic when i have it.

It is not an 8th gen, but before I got my 6th gen hard bags used, for a lot of money I might add, I used soft bags as well. I don't think they held as much as the OEM hard bags do but I have to say I did like them and they did well for a few very extended tours on my bike. I used Cortech Saddle and top bags. The saddle bags were extendable to the side by undoing a zipper. I quite liked them.

Did you buy these in Australia? I can't for the life of me find them, and Shad don't seem to make the rack for the 8th gen anymore

I bought the rack off a guy on eBay USA and bought the side bags in Germany and had them shipped to USA. Top case came new from Miami eBay.
