I've been using a Go Pro clone on my e-bike mounted on the handlebar which works great. I ride it on the beach mostly so no helmet involved.

I want to use it on my motorcycles now. I've seen them mounted in different places (chin, front of helmet, top of helmet, etc.)

I ALWAYS wear my helmet when I ride.

For best results......would love any opinions of best place for a camera to be mounted.

Seems like the helmet to me but - maybe not - dunno - thanks!

BTW - this is NOT a smart phone - it's a Go Pro clone......

I mount mine of my helmet, but not on top. I mount them on the left below the shield pivot.

The footage is great when it is where you are looking and you get built in vibration damping. And I can easily reach up and hit the pause / record button with my left hand.

Sometimes I set it up so you can just see the chin bar on the helmet, it can give it a cool reference / point of view feel.

But the biggest reason I did it that way?.... the amount of bikes I have. I didn't want to figure mount locations for every bike and be sticking 3M pads all over the place.

I was looking at the side of the helmet and thought it looked the most ideal. Thanks as always for your input, sir! ;)

BTW - do you upload your vids to You Tube? I do and add music. They come out pretty good......

    Handlebar mount on my E-Bike.........

I just upgraded my Camera so I'm gonna take some more this year. My old one was old. But it took really good still shots. I would set it up to take a picture every 5 seconds. I got some really cool shots on some rides.

For a couple parties I would put up a slide show on one of the TVs or computers that changed every 5 seconds.

Slide shows are very cool - I've done a few with my Heelers.

You should look into uploading to You Tube......it's really not that big a deal once you get the hang of it......

OK I got it figured out. Had to order some more brackets for the helmet that have a curved bottom. The ones that came in the kit I had were all flat. Making progress.......

My $.02 is that helmet cams absolutely suck. People look around too much. I ignore videos from helmet cams, and so do many others for the same reason.

Additionally, they're not allowed at any track day orgs I know of for safety reasons. Maybe there's something behind that...

I mount mine to the bike in various places and they seem to work fine. I highly recommend a tether and a way to find it in the forest, should you need to. I put mine in bright blue tape.

    Thanks for your input, bmart!

By any chance would you have an example of one of your videos we could look at with the camera mounted on your bike. Along with more info on mounting technique?

    If not maybe some pics?

I'm interested in what anyone is using with success. Especially on our Interceptors......

    Thanks!

Helmet cam footage that sucks is from the user, not the location. They are shitty riders that are constantly looking around to see if anyone is noticing how cool they are or if the cops are around.

A focused vid from the helmet of a good rider on a killer back road does not suck.

    But I get your point.

    OK....some good discussion here...thanks, guys!

FWIW....I found a pretty good YT video that provides some useful info on mounting on the bike itself:

My only concern is audio interference from any vibration due to the engine/gearbox/whatever noises.

Seems like a helmet mount would mitigate such interference.

    Thoughts?

Prepared to be bored. There are street, dirt, and track videos. I put in zero effort, so there's no text, talking, etc. And getting to decent video quality relied on luck, as YouTube used to make them all crappy, despite the excellent source files. lol Be sure to select the highest quality from the settings wheel icon.

I mount the GoPro with those little black plates and the 3M adhesive they come with. On a clean surface, they hold under all conditions!

Thanks, bmart.....those are great, IMHO! Love hearing the sounds of the bike itself instead of wind noise, etc.

I look forward to doing some myself and will post the results. :)

PS - any pics of how & where you mounted your camera?

Jesus. Of course you should be looking around. But I'm not interested in watching somebody's ride to the store or blast on the Interstate. On a sweet section of road with no drivewsys, I'm pretty focused ahead, looking for my entries, apexes and exits.

If I have enough time to watch somebody else's 30 minute video of them riding a road (or their front brake lever), then something of mine is not being ridden or worked on. No thanks.

You are very kind! I mostly take them to share with track day students, but enjoy having some routes to refer back to....and my aunt loves to watch them! lol

I can tell you that you're going to want it in a place where you can get to it easily to turn it on/off and swap batteries. Being able to change the angle/perspective without having to move it around is also nice.

Thanks, bmart! I have some more camera mount items coming and will post when I get something worthy to share. Man this is gonna be so cool! :)

Mine won't be any track stuff - just around town here. With these bikes though even a short clip is fun to watch, IMHO!
