Just in case anyone happens to snap off a mirror, (who me?), don't automatically throw it away and buy a new one.
It seems likely that the break would be right where the shaft tapers down and flattens out to go in the mount.
It can be welded and then painted for a hard to detect repair.
Maybe not by all welders, but I have had two of them repaired and other than a small welding bead, you would never know it. In fact, unless you can compare it with the original one piece shaft, it looks like the weld was part of the original manufacturing process.
You may have to check around to find someone with the ability, but not having to buy a $100 mirror is worth doing some research.

This is definitely true for the 6th Generation mirrors and very likely would apply to many different models.

Also, the guy I know can repair some clutch/brake levers depending on the material.
Again, the repair is hardly noticeable.
