OK, so my work is sending me out West, CA (Ventura County) in mid Feb and I have the opportunity to take my VFR!!!! Speechless!! Two weeks with the best transportation on the planet and Yes all the way from the East Coast. Who would say NO!

So, is there anyone from that generally area or near there that could give me some info on the location of some awesomeness -(roads) to ride and where I should steer clear of? I have been out there a few times on travel (work related), scoped out the PCH and what I could get to, with the amount of time I had, but where is the good stuff? I know there are a tone of roads. Just looking for some local support in order to get something planned before I get out there. Much appreciated! Thanks!

There is lots around Ventura Co. Won't be hard to find. I found lots just wandering about and I had never been there before. But there are members from there that may chip in with advice for you.

You don't want to come ride in California do you?! Man what a waste of time, forget about it, stay home, nothing to see here...

I kid of course. I'm in the middle of something at the moment but I'll be back and give you some roads to check out...

    OK, I'm back.

Here's a nice little Lasso shaped route!. It starts out on Highway 126 then to route 150, which will take you through Ojai. It's a little sight seeing town but can be a little traffic filled on the weekends. Possibly worth stopping to check it out. Not a bad little ride to do for a quick afternoon ride either. Highway 33 however, is just an awesome road, even if you don't go beyond the 'T' intersection (Hwy 33 and 166) and just go to the 'T' and back, it'll be worth it. The only caveat is with the amount of rain and snow we're getting right now, might make the ride a little sketchy but who knows what the weather will bring once you're here. If you go East at the 'T' Junction and then take 58 West, it'll be another ride to experience! On the map you'll notice I take you through Creston and Atascadero, this is because our most gracious host (Reg71) of the VFRW R3 events lives in Atascadero. Not saying he'd welcome you if you just dropped in but maybe he would, who knows?! Anyway, coming back East across 166 is another fun route, very fast but you do have to watch out for CHP, they like to cruise through there too!

If you'd like a personal escort/tour guide, PM when you're here and I'd be happy to show you the way!

    Cheers!

Duccmann and I live near each other in Ventura county. We are surrounded by great roads. Tight canyons, long sweepers like OOTV shared. Beaches, mountains, cities and towns. You name it, it's within a ride.

Private message me your contact info and I'll stay in touch. We can get some miles in while you're here.

Come out, meet up with the SoCal guys, ride through Ojai up to 166 then gas up and head up and take 58 west then 227 then 41 to my place. I have room in the house and RV. We can BBQ and you guys can lie to me about how fast you went on the ride. The next day we can ride a route that will mix in some sights and some curves and work our way out to the coast to see elephants seals and zebras.

I can't remember. I didn't have my hearing aids yet so I might have missed that one. Was there cartoons?

Still have her. Kid ended up buying smaller. I think the power of an 800 was a little more than he thought.

Hawkhound, I see you have the problem of 2 bikes. Maybe its best you take both with you, so if you find you don't like one, you can switch to the other. And I'll even be like a butler. I'll just ride whatever one you aren't using, and if you feel like a change, BOOM, here's the other bike. Its a win win for you.
