So I wanted a camera mount for my ride. I searched online, and saw some nice gear from Ram. Very nice indeed. But, in usual grilldemon fashion, I wanted it now! I then decided to build my own. I had a piece of aluminium flat bar from a previous project and a table top tripod laying around. I took the legs off and kept the base from the tripod. fabbed the alum to use the mirror stalk as an anchor point. I then cut it to size and did some creative grinding to make it look nice. I kept it as short as possible to lessen vibration. Next step was to paint it with Duplicolor metalcast red and several coats of clear. (yes , that is the box from my new Icon Superduty 4 boots. So far a comfy boot) I will let the paint sit overnight and bolt it all up and post a pic of the finished product
Here are the finished pics I made a washer from some tool box liner, put on a dab of loctite blue and screwed the base to the bracket. I'll get a velcro strap for organizing stereo wires and secure the camera strap to the mirror stalk so it doesn't flop around. all that's left to do is try it out.
Very creative mechanic job! I was planning for buying a RAM mount for my Cam and GPS. From your result, I believe I can create for my own by myself. Thanks for your idea.
For the 6th VFR I can't modify an mount on the mirror like what you did. I may consider to build and add the mounting kit on two gastank mounting bolts. So the kit should be quite high to get over the windscreen -> need the vibration reduction solution... haizz...
