When fitting the VFR arm in my blade my first thought was to make sure the front and rear sprockets lined up. To make this happen I needed to fit a 25mm spacer on the right of the swing arm where the long bolt attaches it to the frame.

Front and rear sprocket now line up, but hub is 8mm to far left looking from the back. now if you go to page one of this thread you will see I have compensated for that 8mm when finding my offsets for the VFR wheel and Honda Civic car wheel.

I added that 8mm to the 22mm needed to compensate for a 40mm offset on my new car wheel giving me
8 + 22 = 30mm spacer bringing the rear wheel to exact centre.

I also used 63mm Ford transit van studs as they have the same size and pitch thread as the VFR studs.

Both front and rear wheels are centred, the rear is a 17" rim and the front is 16" . Some of the AMA superbike boys use a smaller front wheel as the say it helps to dip the front end in a bit quicker.

The rear tyre is the size and type used on the Kawasaki ZX10 and has not caused me any issues with the handling what so ever.

My home town of Harwich sits on a ring road that goes out into open country. It runs for 26 miles with loads of twists and turns and is a huge amount of fun to ride. Its a very quick road as you can see way round most bends, and using the whole road is ok in most places. It takes a while to master, but when you do then you go the other way round and its a whole different ball game.

    Is my blade quick....... Yes
    Does it handle well..... Yes
Does it look good and envoke lots of conversation......... Well you tell me!

I love it and would never sell it.

This winter I have even more changes lined up for my pride and joy so keep one eye on your bikes because I might rob the parts I need from you, ha ha.

Yes I was just going to ask about that. I'd like to see this work, my rear's shot and I've been looking at car wheels as an option. I'd probably be looking into having the wheel narrowed though to get closer to stock size. Pics don't work for me, not even cutting and pasting the address.

    Gracias.

Thats odd, they were there! Perhaps there was a problem with the ASF server. I'll see if there is anything I can do. All my photos get uploaded through their server so its a bit weard some will show and others not ?????

Working! Very cool indeed. I was also wondering about the seat profile of a car wheel vs motorcycle wheel, but it looks to be a non issue considering how many people have done it. I'll have to make some calls to Wheels America to see what they would charge me to take a couple of inches out of one of my old wheels (that currently make up the legs of my computer desk)

    thanks CBRRRT

I haven't noticed any problems with the photos and they've been there every time I've looked or pasted the link in a browser. Others have mentioned in chat that they cannot view them.

When I fitted the tyre to the wheel it needed loads of lube to get it on the rim, then nearly 100psi to get the bead to pop.

Bit of a brown pants moment. When it did seat it went with an almighty bang, me and the other guy looked at each other in stunned silence for a moment, then pissed ourselves laughing because it didnt kill either of us. lmfaro We won, well that time anyway.

sounds like one of those deals where you shouldn't be in the same room when seating the bead. If part of that bead sealing portion of the rim would have let go......

Probably take a sawsall to cut the tire off when you're ready to change!!

    Hi there,
Just did this conversion to my 06.
Chose a great looking car aftermarket alloy, with five large dramatic spokes, and a hidden hub. Nice and clean look.
Worked out the spacer size the mathematical way, and then the physical fitting and measuring way, to back up the maths!
It's a 7 inch rim, and I've picked a part worn 200/50 17, to see how it works, without spending too much initially!
Had it powdercoated a white between antique and bright white. Had the original front and rear done the same time. If it didn't work out, the original would go back on and still match.
The spacer I chose, bolts to the hub, but has it's own studs to bolt the wheel on with.
(The other option is to change the studs for long ones, which go through the hub, spacer and wheel.)
The spacer had a smaller central hub bore than the vfr hub, so needed to get it machines bigger to the 74mm, (I think), of the vfr hub. This only needs to be 4mm deep into the spacer.
Bought a pair of spacers, had both bored out, and had one resized from 30mm down to 28.6, to go with the offset of the wheel.
The tyre fitter said fitting the 200 section rubber was a right pain! Had to warm it up for a few hours, then put 115psi into it, to pop it out onto the rim!
Bolted the 28.6mm spacer to the hub, then bolted the wheel onto the spacer.
Had to then move the chain guard slightly away from the wheel, and make adjustments to the hugger, which was touching the tyre. Raised the front of it up where it straps to the swingarm, using a 10mm homemade rubber spacer.
After the photos were done, continuous blue rim tape was put on the front wheel, and the left side of the rear wheel.
On the right side, the tape was put just between the spokes, which has the effect of making them look slightly bigger!
To get the wheel on, the passenger right foot peg had to be removed.
I'd bought a tatty spare, and cut it down so it's just the top part. It bolts to the Honda rack at the rear, so kept it for that. By cutting the bottom off, (don't carry passengers!), it doesn't hang in front of the wheel.
To finish the look off, found a perfect size Honda badge in a drawer here, bought for a previous project and never used. Sits in the hub centre lovely!
Personally, I think the wheel looks fantastic, exactly as I'd visualised it would.
Not to everyone's taste, but I honestly don't care about haters and purists!
Haven't ridden her yet, so can't comment on the rideability!
Will update once it's had a good testing!
