Great info again. Thank you TF3!

Do you have a few photos you could post? I would enjoy seeing your project bike, it sounds like a beauty.

    Sure...

Test fit of Honda ignition switch on Yamaha triple. I needed to make a bracket so the ignition switch locked the front.

Difference between 86 VFR and 98 YZF clipons is just over 3"

I have more if you want....
After the summer I will be updating hondavfr.org with new content.

I have a complete F3 front end, forks, triple clamps, wheel with rotors, and F2 complete rear wheel ready for someones conversion.

Thank you for the photos TF3. Looks like a nice build.

My current thinking is to go with the '94 F2 or the F3 forks and purchase a set of Profi adjustable clip-ons with risers, if needed.

I would like to keep things in the Honda family (simply a matter of personal preference).

To keep the stock geometry (and so as not to be concerned about clearance issues) I plan to slide the fork tubes down 20mm. This will match the stock fork length (780+20= 800).

Of course I'll need to mount the clip-ons below the top clamp on the triple tree as there won't be enough room above the top clamp.

I have an e-mail out to Telefix to see if they can supply me with the dimensions (the rise) on the Profi bars, as a double check before ordering, but I think I can get close to the stock bar height.

Also, I'll be adding a set of a 929RR/954RR four piston calipers with custom brackets fabricated to work with F/F2 rotors. I currently have the stock rotors on my CBR600F wheel conversion and would like to upgrade to the larger F/F2s. The four piston with larger rotors should be a big improvement over stock.

I'll post an update as I have more info.

Thanks again for all the intel on the fork specs. This is much appreciated!

The F3 forks, IIRC, don't have provision for a speedo drive. You'd have to use a digital bicycle speedo or something similar. On a VFR, you can also add the 2ndgen speedo drive from the front sprocket, but that won't help you with your VF.

Thanks for the post. Good to know.

I may end up cross-pollinating here. I have been corresponding with Woodcraft and Telefix. Both offer clip-ons with risers but both are not tall enough to get the bars back to a stock position, when mounted under the top clamp.

The YZF600R forks may be the best bet as, given their length, I can mount the clip-ons above the top clamp.

For ref, the stock dims for a VF500F clip-on:

TF3, for the YZF 805mm forks, what years should I be looking for?

    Thanks.

    Hi Guys,

This is a very interesting thread. I was wondering if I could install a set of 94 CBR F2 forks on my 83 VF750F Interceptor, without too much modification. I don't understand what it means to say that one fork is a compression and the other is a rebound, how does that work?

1997-2007 have the same forks... Mine were from a 98 YZF600R

By the way, the YZF speedo drive fits the 86 VFR's speedo cable. (and reduces the speedo error!)

    Thanks TF3.

I have purchased a set of YZF forks and am looking forward getting started on this project.

I very much appreciate all your help with answering my questions.

Will be interested to read your full write up on hondavfr.org.

Please let us know when this goes to press.

Do you have just the forks, or the whole front end? (triples, forks, wheel, rotors, calipers, etc)

Forks only. I'm going to be keeping my CBR600F wheel for now.

In addition, I will be upgrading to Brembo or Nissin four piston calipers with custom brackets along with F/F2 rotors. Plan on using an F2 triple clamp and a set of Woodcraft clip-ons with 3" risers.

I think this way is going to be very difficult, or at least very time consuming.

    Have you thought of:
    (1) Axle diameter? The F1/F2 has 20mm axle, and the YZF600 has a 17mm axle. (F1/F2 axle won't fit through forks, and YZF axle is too small for F2 wheel)

    (2) Axle length? The YZF's forks are 8mm wider than the F2, so the axle may be that much longer. Something to check. (don't have F1 specs)

    (3) The YZF axle does not use an external nut. It uses a threaded hole in the lower fork. I think this means you need to use the YZF axle.

    (4) What fender are you going to use and how do you plan to mount it? (the YZF fender bolts on at the side and not the top like the F1/F2)

(3)And you will need custom wheel spacers that work with what ever solution you come up with #1.

I am not saying you can't do it, I am saying my mixing Honda and Yamaha front end components it gets difficult.
I wonder if the fork uppers would fit the F2 fork lowers? That would make things very easy for you.

Thanks for the post TF3. All very good points.

I'll look into the axle when I receive the forks but well noted on the threaded design.

To be honest it is all a bit of an experiment and I agree cross-pollination has its quirks.

The machining of the various parts should be fairly straightforward but I'll need to dive into this a bit more. For reference here is what I have on my current build:

    Thanks TF3.

I may have a few more questions for you as I dive into this upgrade ;-)

One question to start, are the fork tubes on the YZF and the fork tubes on F2/F3 identical when measured with a micrometer?

Would you happen to have the 411 on this detail?

    I measured them this weekend:
    CBR 600F2 Forks: 1.610 / 40.9mm
    YZG 600R Forks: 1.610 / 40.9mm
