I've been following it on the Dakar website-http://www.dakar.com/us/DAKAR/2010/live.html
The final results are in and C. Despres has been leading by an hour for the last 8 stages.
Jonah Street (the only serious American) finished 7th. He was in the same position last year when he broke his arm near the end. He was making progress, but pushing his speed cost him the finish.
I hope he sticks with it and keeps his sponsorship. An American on the podium might generate the kinda excitement Hayden brought to MotoGP.
Last year, he had his own site with all sorts of information. This year, there is a team site that was last updated on Jan 10th -http://www.rallypanam.com/bikes.html
Maybe you need twitter and facebook to see more. I don't understand why.
There are changes coming. I heard they are going to limit displacement to 450. Have not read any articles on it, but I've got the next year to figure out what they are doing.
I have a dream of attending the Dakar. I'll never be in the tax bracket or the skill level to race, but just being there would be a giant thrill.
