Those sound very nice, may just order some of the regular, non-maduros. Been looking for a good 'creamy' cigar & definitely enjoy the larger ring gauges. Although, I think 8 beers is definitely a 2 cigar evening?

So, with that bottle of Dalwhinnie you see on the right, I have finally completed my tour!

I'll say it is now #3, and maybe tied for #2.

    1) Talisker
    2) Glenkinchie
    2A) Dalwhinnie

And with that, my tour is complete!

Well, since someone brought this thread back to life...

I'm in Germany visiting the in-laws. That means I get to smoke Monte Cristo No. 2's & drink Erdinger Hefeweizen Dunkel.

    KC-10 FE out...

The Gunny is using you as a pawn hoping somebody in the military will come to his rescue. Ain't about smokes or Scotch at all.

Lately I've been sticking with Nica Libre, Established 1844, and Cuba Aliados (all from Cigars International). They're all mild-medium and pretty balanced, at least to my aging palate. The prices are decent, too, at about $50 a box.

    Mmm...scotch and cigars!
I also just bought a bottle of Dalwhinnie (due to the hearty recommendation of a fellow shopper in the store). Cannot wait to try it!
And lately, the various Rocky Patel cigars are becoming big favorites. The only problem is finding nights when the wind isn't blowing too much.

I have seen those nica libres around but never tried them. what do they compare to? they are usually pretty reasonable on price IMO.

The Nica Libre are similar to Padron maduro 2000 / 3000 / 5000 etc. series, if you've ever tried them. The Padrons are medium-full, and are really tasty all the way through. The biggest difference is the Nica Libre burn faster, as the filler tobacco seems to be somewhat course by comparison. I think the Padrons are better, but they are getting a bit ridiculous in price and they never seem to be in stock.

Well. I haven't had a cigar for over a year now. But the scotch is yet another matter. Echo, that is a nice selection there but the bottle on the right is empty. I am not coming over. You would be doing yourself a disservice if you were not to try the Highland Park 25. Having a nip of that is to be like a teenager again with a cheap hooker while on Spanish fly. Some day I would like to give their 35 year old a try. But I have to wait until I win copious quantities of money for that one.

Any of you dudes have a line on some of those Guillermo Clintonios that were popular a few years back?

I remember them. They have a distinct aroma.

Those were "flavored" cigars, you know, dipped into a special, um, juice...most of us here eschew those in favor of the "au natural" approach.

You're probably right that they were eschewed rather than smoked..

Ditto that! If I'm ever financially stable again, I'll probably stay with the maduro 3000's and Arturo Fuente Hemmingway Classics. Or save my money and pick up another VFR, probably a 4th Gen this time. THEN I'll buy a box of Hemmingways to celebrate.

The bottle was Glenlivet 18, and was a Christmas gift from my daughter and son-in-law last Christmas. I just finished it here at Thanksgiving, hence the two new bottles of Glenkinchie and Dalwhinnie.

The "tour" I'm speak of was a lifelong journey of trying every Scotch out there. I have had Highland, though not 25.

I like the peaty or smokey scotches, really dry. Though Lagavulin and Laphroaig are a little too smokey and sea salty for my tastes.

I have had the Lagavulin a couple times in the cupboard. Yup. Very peaty. But the change is nice time to time. I have heard lots about Laphroaig but I don't think I have had that yet. Next time. Mine tends to last a long time cause I am diabetic and I can have very limited number of drinks a day....like two. I cheat from time to time. So when there are 8 - 10 bottles of the single malt along with all the others like the rums, ryes, vodkas, gins and what not, and the wife and kids do not indulge....and I have not friends....they tend to last a long time.
