Are they shutting down? I am not surpised, but they do have the most amazing templates anywhere. Hopefully the guy will make some coin selling those templates.

3d printing has a place in the world, but with the materials, size machine and cost, it is way too expensive to make these parts viably. This does not count the UV/durability type of material needed. To make original bodywork you need to scan in every millimeter of a pristine new piece. That hardware is 5-10k for scanning mm by mm of curves, radii, etc..

 

Nobody wanted to buy him out last I heard. Not surprised, he may have been grandfathered in on some CA shit.

Should be an interesting assets auction, if that happens.

 

And it's still not that easy. I have a laser scanner at work that can do that. But to get the raw data to a file that can then be cleaned up for printing is not just pressing a "PROCESS" button.

 

He looks to be getting out of motos entirely. Hopefully his health is ok. He has been selling bikes for a while now.

 

He's "retiring". He's been doing it a LONG time and is not young. I'm sure he was hoping to sell the business as an Enterprise. Like I said, if it doesn't happen, the auction is hopefully lucrative.
