Does anybody know specifically if the exhaust system from a 4th gen (94-97) will fit a 3rd gen (90-93). I'm mostly interested to know if it will fit into the exhaust ports.

dehning, I don't have any info for you on this but I'm wondering if you ever got around to trying the swap? How did it work for you?

I actually finaly have all the bits for the project, save the small peice to join the header to the muffler from a CBR959, will probably test fit it in the next week or two, will let you know.

Yes, I believe it will. I have seen several people who took the aftermarket left exit exhaust from 4th gen and bolted it up to the 3rd gen or the reverse. So generally speaking it should transfer without too much trouble.

    Good to know, thanks!
The whole reason I would like to do it is because I have a left side header, but all things considered I think I'd prefer the more symetric right side muffler config, but I don't want the resonator chamber.

If the 4th gen exhaust swap works, would that allow a 4th gen centerstand to fit the 3rd gen frame?

Yes, will fit, WITHOUT the center stand. If you have the RARE left exiut, use it.

I do have the *RARE* left exit, but I prefer the right exit, the novelty of the fully exposed wheel has worn off for me.

I don't have a center stand but had been considering getting one, how bad does it fowl ?

so I was successful in mounting a GEN4 pipe (in this case a D&D I got from ebay) to a GEN3 collector. It's not a strict "plug and play" as the posts would suggest as the GEN3 collector is wider and a different position than the GEN4 (gen3 is like a collector box whereas gen4 is a midpipe). That being said, I found a trashed GEN3 pipe, hacksawed off the collector mounting flange and used it to make an elbow (no welding or gaskets) to "flange down" to the GEN3 collector. If you look in the pic below, it's the V shaped "elbow" that mounts up perfectly to the GEN3 collector. The GEN4 pipe has a flange that is about 1/2" smaller than the GEN3 flange, so this trick basically is a "double flange" connector. The good news is that you can use all of the stock mounting hardware, no leaks and return to stock in 10 mins as you arent changing anything on the stock. The bad news is that you have to find a crap GEN3 pipe to use as a donor. All in this rig cost $80 or so ($60 for the D&D, 20 for the rashed donor GEN3 pipe).
