Does anyone know if the factory bags and top case made for one year model would fit onto another years? For example, if you get a 2008 with the factory bags, can you put that on a newer or an older model?

Hi and Welcome to the Madhouse Mazonb:Welcome:

When you get time please add a post in the "introductions" part of the site and tell us a bit about your VFR and your riding history. NB they like photos!

I am not sure what you are trying to ascertain about panniers - but basically the same OEM pannier was available as an option for 6th Gen models (2001-2013). These came in loads of usually year specific colours but are physically the same and need the same mounting hardware to attach to the motorbike.

Note whilst the OEM panniers were made by Givi for Honda they are NOT the same as Givi branded panniers which were also offered for the same motorbike - as they use different mounting frames/systems to attach to the pannier and the frame of the motorbike.

When it came to designing the 7th and 8th Gen models Honda realised that many owners actually wanted panniers on their VFRs but disliked how the mounting frames made the panniers unnecessarily wide and when the panniers were not fitted owners either had to put up with the ugly frame they mounted onto or spend time removing and refitting the frame as required. So for the 7th and 8th Gen VFRs they re-designed the motorbike frame to incorporate the mounting points for OEM pannier bags so they could be attached (and removed) directly to the motorbike frame meaning they did not require any specific mounting kit and were noticeably narrower than panniers fitted on 6th Gen models. However they still needed additonal mounting hardware if you also wanted to fit an OEM top box.

What this means is an OEM pannier set from an 8th Gen will fit to a 7th Gen and vice versa although they had different paint codes. NB When supplied with a new VFR motorbike the key lock sets were normally matched to use the vehicle key. If you buy second hand panniers you would either need to carry an additional key just for the panniers or buy and fit new locksets to the panniers so they are matched to your VFR key.

NB OEM locksets are still available from some dealers and if you don't want to pay the dealers installation fees YouTube will show you how to remove/replace them.
