I think $550 is for the pair of FMF/APEX mufflers while $999 is for the full FMF system: larger-diameter, mandrel-bent stainless pipe from the cat; stainless Y-pipe; two mufflers; mounting hardware; etc.

While you could hacksaw off your stock mufflers and install the FMF mufflers, know that the FMF stainless Y-pipe is sooooo much smoother than the crappy crimped/pinched/flat Y-pipe that comes stock.

I'll shoot a photo of the FMF Y-pipe on my bike and post it later today.

Any chance you could get the clip on youtube? I'm deployed and the good ole' government won't let me get to the link. Thanks.

While the price seems like it's high, it is on par with the other "premium" full exhausts... especially for something that actually looks GOOD, I don't see that being overpriced.

The first photo is a look at the Y-pipe used with the FMF system. Larger diameter, mandrel bent, stainless-steel tubing is used and the workmanship is spot-on.

The second photo is a rear look at the two FMF mufflers. Notice how the FMF system uses compact mounts built into the top of each muffler that attach directly to the OEM frame mounts ... rather than using ugly/bulky 360-degree mounting straps as used by most other aftermarket muffler setups.

Please discount the dust/dirt on the bike/exhaust/suspension as the bike needs a wash.

Damn you consider THAT needing a wash ..... you'd be mighty unhappy if you saw my bike...

    That's a purdy exhaust!

    VFRBenny,

FMF bicycle frame as a kid? Never heard of it.

I think you might be mistaking it for a DG mx bicycle frame of the early 1980s as DG also offered motorcycle parts and exhaust.

The first thing I thought when I saw the side view was why didn't they mount the mufflers the other way?. The Rear view just confirmed it for me. Take a look at what could have been.....

I don't know why they didn't mount them another direction ... maybe it has to do with a heat/melting or clearance issue. Regardless, everyone who has seen the system loves it ... and is sounds suhhhh-weeeeeeet! Plus, you can't argue with a 7 hp gain and a loss of 12 lbs!

I dunno. I kind of like them the way they are... Turning them the other way might end up hiding too much. When I had my micron exhaust I flipped them and liked them better when they were further "out" ....

Yep, they didn't mount them like they did on the duc. Still looks great but I prefer the other angle.

    Possibly.

However, remember that if you live in the southern hemisphere things are reversed and it all works out fine. In addition, if you have directional tires, be sure to flip them 180-degrees when riding in OZ.

Nope! bought it at hank and frank in Oakland, Ca. for $200. FMF aluminum frame. You ever heard of a web search? if not? here ya go. Also, DG was crap in the 80's not sure if they ever got any good, as I moved from BMX to motorcycle Road racing in the mid 80's.

Ya... I think I am going the same route... FMF has always made my bikes look great, sound great, and make more power in the past.

Damn - that looks awesome, I'm almost considering scrapping the plans for the TBR exhaust and going with that.
I would like to look into the clearance issue since I do think it looks better with the cans adjusted in the photo.
Congrats, now I need to hit up the advice column to find out how to pass this one by the wife......Look honey I won a free exhaust but had to pay $899 in shipping!

Swampass, I don't see why they would not work on an 02 VFR. It is my understanding that the exhaust systems are essentially the same. I know my Staintunes exhaust on my former 02 bolts up just fine to my 07. Maybe someone can back me up here.
