Front brake reservoir level check

Hi All

I just want to double check, in which position should the VFR be when checking the brake fluid level? Side stand, main stand, bars facing forward?

Actually have a copy of the workshop manual but it does not say in there either.

If it is like all other bikes I've owned, the top of the reservoir should be level. That will allow you to add to the top mark and still fit the compressed bladder and lid without spilling. But if it is low...look at your pads. They generally wear near 1:1 rate. And if you fill it with old pads, when you put new pads in, you'll need to remove most of the fluid.

 

Yeah that would make sense, then on side stand and bars all the way to the left would be level. I did have a look and the pads are fairly low, back and front, so probably a good idea to do those sometime soon, and then monitor the fluid level.

I'd like to change the fluid in my system but don't want to risk dumping brake fluid all over the paint/handlebars.
I recently installed a center stand which raises the rear end, so maybe that might be the best bet.

 

Put some rags on your tank, bars, around the resv., etc. Anywhere brake fluid could spill. You'll thank yourself should you spill some.

 

I COVER my bike in old blankets/towels anytime a res cap comes off for any reason. Doesn't matter how outlandish something may seem, when brake fluid is involved, it will find a way to fucking happen. HATE BRAKE FLUID!
