Sorry for the late reply. You pop the cap off with a screwdriver. Just pops right off. The ram mount comes with a rubber cone about 3 or 4 inches long. They give you a long screw with a set of washers and nuts. You put it together and push it down the stem then you tighten it with a 3mm hex wrench. The cone expands and tightens inside the stem. Easy!

Could you tell more about the LED headlights? I'm also interested in them, but I only could find LED bulbs with enough lumen for a fog light, not enough for the main beam. Where did you get these?

Just a warning, if you go with the powerlet steering stem socket as an option, the wiring harness they send with it is messed up. SPecifically, the ground wire does not actually reach any screws that connect to the frame, so be forewarned that you'll have to find a grounding solution involving a.) lengthening the wire to reach a useful screw or back to the battery, or b.) ground it off a ground line up by the headlights.

I'd recommend emailing powerlet before you order that item, tell them a friend with a '09 VFR called bullshit on their product, and see if they have fixed it.

The ground issue is the same with the 5th gen as well. I let wiremybike.com know but it sounds like they haven't fixed the issue.

I'm not as big on the RAM stem mount as I used to be; it was almost too small to fit in the stem of my 5th-gen, and after about a year of use, the plastic retainer piece that holds the adjustment nut on the bottom stripped out and caused the mount to come loose in the middle of the Dragon. I don't know if the 5th- and 6th-gen have different sized stems that wouldn't create a problem, but I would definitely look into something more secure. RAM does make mounts that attach to the fork caps or the screws on your brake/clutch reservoirs as well. I've also heard that Tech Mount makes a different version of the stem mount that's more secure, and I believe you can mount RAM accessories to their ball mount.

Is this the mounting point that you are taking about? I just purchased one of these for my 5th gen.

Yeah, that's the one. I kept having to tighten it, and eventually the nut stripped the cutout for it and fell off.

I have the same setup for my VFR and found out that Ram Mounts all have a "Lifetime Warranty". I had also lost the nut off of the bottom so I sent an email but then also called after no response (impatient). The Rep on the phone provided me a diff email address (than their website) and I sent a 2nd message off. A day later I had responses from both emails and they sent me the entire Nut, screw & washers pack within a week.

Give Ram Mount a call... I was very satisfied with their Cust Svc
